RISRC Newsletter - February 27 2021

Good evening referees - We hope that this email finds you safe and sound!

Item 1 - Spring League Information

The RISRC is currently in communication with leagues across the state to
determine how and when these leagues will progress for the Spring season.
Here is what we know as of today:

The SuperLiga is planning on starting their season on Saturday April 10th.

The Women’s League is gathering team information and could start in May.

The Over 30/40 League is still considering whether or not it will have a
season.

Attached to this message, you will find the policies and procedures that
have been developed by the RISRC for referees and their matches. This
document will also be placed on the www.risrc.net website. Possibly the
most pressing item is that referees are being asked to either use an
electronic whistle or a standard whistle UNDER A MASK. If you want/need to
purchase an electronic whistle, the lead time on orders is approximately
2-3 weeks, so you should place an order very soon. Official Sports (
www.officialsports.com) has electronic whistles.

Item 2 - Referee Certification Modules

The RISRC wishes to remind you to check your Profile inside the US Soccer
Learning Center to make sure that you have completed all necessary online
modules for your 2021 certification. According to US Soccer, there are over
100 Rhode Island referees who have yet to renew either their SafeSport or
Health and Safety modules. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO OFFICIATE IF THESE
MODULES ARE NOT COMPLETED!!!

1) Login to the US Soccer Learning Center site ( learning.ussoccer.com ).

2) At the top right corner of your screen, you should see an abbreviation
for your name and your picture. Click on that, then click on “Profile” →
this will list all the modules that have been completed (or still need to
be completed).

3) If you still need to complete a module → at the top of the Learning
Center screen, click on "Courses" and then on "Available Courses".

4) Click on the [Supplemental Courses] button near the top of the window.

5) "SafeSport" should be the second course in the list along the left side.
“Health and Safety” should be the third course in the list.

Item 3 - Referee “Comfort Level”

The RISRC has created a Google form to ask you for your HONEST opinions
about the level of soccer that you are comfortable officiating. We don’t
want to ask you to officiate a match if you don’t think you’re ready for
it!

When you answer the Referee and Assistant Referee questions, you are saying
that you would feel comfortable officiating a COMPETITIVE MATCH (such as
SuperLiga) with that age group AND any younger age group. For example, if
you select U-16, it means you are ALSO comfortable with U-14, U-12, and
U-10. We fully expect that you might have one comfort level as a Referee,
and a completely different comfort level as an Assistant.

The link to the Google form is below. Please fill this out by Sunday March
7th!

The RISRC is currently in communication with leagues across the state to determine how and when these leagues will progress for the Spring season. As of today, the following leagues INTEND to play starting in April: SuperLiga, Women’s League, Over 30/40 League.

Once the leagues and the RISRC have come to a consensus on how the matches will be played, we will publicize the information in a future newsletter and on the www.risrc.net website. It is ANTICIPATED that referees will be asked to either use an electronic whistle or a standard whistle UNDER A MASK ; these procedures have not yet been totally finalized, but understand that if you want/need to purchase an electronic whistle, the lead time on orders is approximately 4-6 weeks. Official Sports (www.officialsports.com) has electronic whistles.

Since 1984, Official Sports, has been dedicated to serving the apparel and equipments needs of only soccer referees.
