Here's a piece focusing on Chase, my great nephew who is living with Friedrich's Ataxia. Chase tells us that that is 'the hand he has been dealt', and he has found his own ways of being involved in what he loves to do. He is one of two very special reasons that fundraising for finding a cure for Friedrich's Ataxia is so essential. We couldn't be prouder of him.

Vermont's Senator Leahy spoke about this woman, Mary Nadon Scott, who is afflicted with the same genetic disease that the two young people in my own family have to deal with. I know Mary, having met her at the Ride Ataxia event in Pennsylvania a year ago. Her health care, and that of my nephew and niece, is dependent on the Affordable Care Act.

This is the reality that my great niece and nephew - Abby and Chase - are confronting. Any money that I receive as a kayaker for an open water swimmer will be contributed to finding a cure for Friedrich's Ataxia.
