This was my introduction speech for our EOY soccer banquet. We had a great night celebrating our program. I believe this says it best for our program this year.

I’m filled with pride and admiration for our boys soccer program. This season has been nothing short of remarkable, not just because of the numbers on the scoreboard, but because of the people who made it all happen.

From Modified to JV to Varsity, every player, coach, and supporter has contributed to something special. Our Modified team finished with a strong 7–5 record, showing growth, grit, and the spark of what’s to come. Our JV team battled through every challenge, finishing 7–5–3, a true testament to their teamwork and perseverance.

And then, our Varsity team… what a season. 15 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, the best record in program history. Our first sectional semifinal appearance in 12 years. The most total wins, goals, and points ever recorded by a C-A boys soccer team. These aren’t just stats, they’re milestones.

But what I’ll remember most isn’t just the success. It’s the spirit. The camaraderie. The moments when players picked each other up, when effort outweighed ego, and when our love for the game showed through every pass, tackle, and goal. I had the privilege of coaching not just talented athletes, but an incredible group of young men.

This season was about more than victories. It was about lessons, in resilience, accountability, and brotherhood. And as we look forward, that’s what excites me most. Almost 30 players are committed to continuing their journey this offseason. That’s how programs grow. That’s how legacies are built.

We may have just one club player right now, but I see a bright future ahead. The foundation has been laid, now it’s up to us to keep building. To buy in. To believe. To keep pushing the standard higher.

Let’s take what we’ve learned, what we’ve accomplished, and what we’ve felt, and use it to fuel the next chapter. The challenge is in front of us. The opportunity is ours.

Let’s keep climbing. Let’s keep growing. And let’s continue to make this program something we’re all proud to be part of.

Thank you for everything you’ve given this season, your effort, your heart, and your belief. The best is still to come.

Boys' Varsity Soccer season recap

Our season ended on Tuesday night to a very strong Greenville soccer team. But what I keep thinking about isn’t the loss, it’s the 10 seniors that played for me. Ten players who just played their last game in a Coxsackie-Athens uniform. Ten players I’ll never get to coach again. That’s what hurts the most.

We finished 15-3-1 this season, the most successful year we’ve had since I’ve been here. First semifinal appearance in 12 years. Most total wins, goals, points in a single season in CA history. I had the privilege of coaching one of the best players I’ve ever coached, and more importantly, one of the best teams I’ve ever been part of.

After the game, I had players come up to me, when emotions were at their highest, to tell me I was the reason they played, that they learned life lessons through this sport, that they’ll miss playing the sport they grew to love. Trophies are nice, but they’re not the only measure of success. Still after 22 years, I need to remind myself of that from time to time. I'm a competitor and love to win but this team win or lose was something special and will be missed.

What we built this year was special. We played for each other, we competed with heart, and we represented Coxsackie-Athens with pride. I’m proud of every single one of you. I’m grateful for the time we had together, for the work you put in, and for the way you made me love this game all over again.

Thank you seniors Joe, Nate, Rhoderick, Ethan, Eamonn, Gavin, Asa, Kevin, JJ, and Zeke. You left an impact on the program.

#5 Coxsackie-Athens vs. #4 Cobleskill-Richmondville – Quarterfinal Matchup

The #5 Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks traveled to #4 Cobleskill-Richmondville for an afternoon quarterfinal matchup that featured unpredictable weather and challenging field conditions. The soft, slick surface and alternating bursts of sunshine, rain, and even hail added another layer of difficulty to an already intense contest.

In a tale of two halves, the Bulldogs came out strong, showing confidence and familiarity with their home field. Their early intensity kept the Riverhawks on their heels for much of the first half. Cobleskill-Richmondville fired off 10 shots and earned 4 corners, twice striking the post on dangerous opportunities. Despite the pressure, the CA defense and goalkeeper Jacob Grounds held firm, bending but not breaking against the Bulldogs’ attack led by Isaiah Hamilton and Aiden Carr.

The second half told a different story. Coxsackie-Athens found their rhythm, adjusting to the conditions and increasing their pace and precision. Midfielder Joe Perino helped orchestrate the attack as the Riverhawks began to control possession and dictate tempo. Defenders Rhoderick Herdman and Michael Deering anchored a back line that didn’t allow a single shot from the Bulldogs in the second half.

With both defenses holding strong, the match headed into overtime scoreless. Just over four minutes into the extra period, Ben Hoglund ripped a shot that skipped off the Bulldogs’ keeper, and Asa Decker was perfectly positioned to bury the rebound for the golden goal and the win.

Coxsackie-Athens advances to the Sectional Semifinals on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, where they will face the winner of Greenville vs. Johnstown.
