Spent the day yesterday at Master Bladesmith Ray Kirk's place during the Knife Group Association of Oklahoma's spring get-together. Had a fun time and picked up some useful tips. I had never witnessed an ABS test. Watched two knife makers pass their test! It was awesome! It may have even inspired me to make some time to get back to knife making! ;)

I know, I know. It's been a while since I posted. Heck, it's been since Sept. since I finished a knife. I've been so busy with other things. Can't believe it's been that long since I finished my first slipjoint.

UPDATE: I have a love/hate relationship with 01 Tool Steel. It's what I made the blue slippie out of. It rusts if not taken care of. Even the slightest amount of moisture makes it start turning. That's the con. But the pro is that it's tough! I've used and abused (just mildly ;) ) this knife. It has taken everything I've thrown at it. Here's my latest pictures of it. I was cleaning some very old, and very hard caulk off of a tub. The stuff was harder than the grout! I wanted to see if the tip would hold up. I figured it would. I have cut a ton of other stuff with this knife since finishing it. The tip is still intact and all that nasty caulk and grout is gone!

Well, after several tries, I finally produced my first functioning slipjoint! (pocket knife for you non-knife heads :) ) This turned out to be one of the most frustrating things I've done knife wise! But I'm glad it's finished. The next ones should go a little smoother...I hope! G10 linerless handles. 3/32" 01 Tool Steel for blade and spring. It had a neat snap before I peened the pins, guess I over did it because now it closes stiff. I'll do some adjustments on that later to see if I can get it loosened up.

Well, the weather cooled off for a few days and allowed me to get this Tanto/Necker finished. 01 steel, 1/8", 2 5/8" from tip to handle, 6" overall, Blue G10 handles. I used FC acid and Vinegar to etch the blade. I think it looks really cool. Sorta has a tough look to it. Comes with Kydex neck sheath. FB price is $65. Price includes Free USPS Priority Shipping. I felt like someone was watching me as I made this knife. Then I realized it must be all these crazy eyes on this Bocote! At one time before I started sanding, I counted 7 eyes on the left side!

5 1/2" Santoku made from 3/32" 52100 steel. Ground very thin. The whole knife is light. Handles are some highly figured Desert Ironwood. The camera (cell phone) can not capture how awesome these handles are!

As most of you know, 52100 is an excellent steel for knives. Originally designed as ball bearing steel, it is very tough and holds a very keen edge.

Spine and choil have been rounded for comfort while using.

I'm going to discount this one a little because my plunge lines are slightly off from one another. You probably wouldn't see it unless you were looking for it, but I know it's there.

Price is $150. Includes free USPS Priority shipping. Paypal or USPS Money Order.

These are the two I had on the bench when my home flooded. I made them as paring knives but the white one would make a great bird and trout night because it has some flex in the blade. Both are very 3/32nd 52100 high carbon steel.
