Please, please, please, don’t have surgery for scoliosis until you try Pilates. Please don’t put a rod and screws in your spine (especially a child’s spine) before you go to a Pilates expert. I have seen many regrets from people who have had unnecessary surgeries that actually did harm. Your body is very smart and it does not like foreign objects inside of it. Many issues can be fixed or improved without surgery. Contact me for a free consult and I’ll tell you all about your back and how you can keep it healthy.
FYI, a child’s bones are malleable until puberty so exercises that focus on alignment and symmetry of the body and bones will help line the bones back up properly when done correctly. Also, moving a joint the way it was designed to move will feed your joints. Once you lose mobility in a joint, it will die (basically starving to death) and you will not be able to move it anymore at all. If you put a rod in your spine, those vertebrae will not move anymore, starving your spine.
Please share this information and hopefully this post can help someone make the right decision about whether or not to have surgery.

My goal as a personal trainer is to prevent. As with most health issues, the sooner you catch an issue, the better. I want to prevent pain, surgeries, medications, and disease. If you have been thinking of starting a new regime for better health, what is preventing you from taking that step? Do it and don’t look back. You have nothing to lose. Moving is free, cutting out fast food and eating at home will save you money, sitting quietly with your eyes closed and practicing deep breathing will make you feel refreshed and relaxed. These are simple things you can start with that will change your body and mind. Most of my clients say they wish they had started Pilates sooner. They are very different people than they were day 1. No one has ever said, “I wish I had waited another year before I started taking better care of myself.” I hope this will convince someone who is on the fence about making a change to go ahead and do it. You will not regret it. I’m not even suggesting you start with Pilates or come to my classes. Just begin to move forward towards a healthier body and mind. One small step will foster another one and soon you will wonder, “why did I wait so long?
