Today was much better. Didn't light the world on fire, but didn't suck. Dealt with some hand cramping on the last couple rounds, despite 4 bottles of water and a Gatorade, as it is mid-90's with no cloud cover and hydration is huge. While my shooting could have been better, the trip as a whole was good. We did great work on the instructor certification program, I made new friends and saw many old ones, and helped a group of cubs through a difficult "teachable moment".
A big shout out to Ben, Dino and Adil for taking the reins on the NFAA CT state field championship so that I could be here.
Now it's time to head home, set up the Bear Archery Alaskan Pro for hunting and anxiously await my new Bear target bow and the start of the indoor season.
Thank you to Greg Mancini for taking a chance on me and allowing me to represent Bear and Trophy Ridge this season. I hope I did you proud.

Today was rough. The nerves were no different today than any other tournament I've shot this year. The difference today was that because of my work schedule this past month leading to basically no practice time (only 3 practice sessions from 7/31 to today) I did not have the confidence in my shot to keep the nerves in check, and it showed. Aside from being a bit sloppy overall, I twice found myself with under 30 seconds to get off 2 arrows šŸ˜± While I give myself credit for letting down when I knew they weren't right, this is NOT a position one wants to be in. With under 30 seconds for 2 arrows (twice), the hinge went in the pouch and the thumb button came out and it was basically point and punch on 4 shots......8-8-8-7. Some points is better than no points, but it wasn't ideal.
If there is a positive, it's this; my last two ends of the day were my two best ends, solid form and good groups/score, with my final shot of the day being a strong, well executed X at 60. Time to take what I found on those last two ends, regroup, reset and try to go out there and win the 900 round tomorrow. While I'm too far out to win it all, a good rebound round would take some of the sting out of today's lackluster performance.

My office looks a little different today.......one of my rolls with the National Field Archery Association this year has been as part of a committee to develop an NFAA Instructor Certification program. With the curriculum completed, it is on to the next step, videography. Apparently I am good looking and well spoken enough to have been asked to be involved with that as well. So for the next three days, that's what I will be doing. Thursday should be a down day, followed by judging the Dakota Classic on Friday, and shooting the Target Nationals Saturday and Sunday.

I've said it for 40 years, bow arms win championships. Want to see an example? Watch this match. One archer has a dynamic bow arm, full of tension and wild movement that is dramatically more difficult to repete shot after shot, especially in pressure situations. The other has a static bow arm that continues the aiming process all the way until the arrow lands, much more reliable and easier to repete. Control the bow arm through impact. The release of the string BEGINS the shot, not ends it.
