Today marks the official first day of summer and the longest day of the year! With more daylight comes more opportunities to get outside, stay active, and make lasting memories with the people you love.

Need some inspiration? Here are a few fun ways to celebrate the Summer Solstice:

Today, we honor Juneteenth—a celebration of freedom, resilience, and hope.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the last enslaved African Americans were free. Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of our nation's history and the ongoing journey toward equality, justice, and opportunity for all.

At the Charles E. Lakin YMCA, we are committed to creating a welcoming community where every person is valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. We believe that when we embrace our differences and learn from one another, we build a stronger, healthier community together.

Today, we invite you to:

We are currently working on plans to keep our summer yoga classes rolling and we appreciate all your eagerness and excitement to keep reaching for your goals at our location. We encourage everyone to still come in even if classes may be canceled as we will have self led classes available during the posted times.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We will keep updating our schedule for said classes in branch, on our app, and here on Facebook.

🇺🇸 As we honor Memorial Day, we remember and reflect with gratitude for the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. ❤️🤍💙

This holiday is also a great reminder to slow down, soak up the sunshine, and spend quality time outdoors with family and friends. Whether it’s a walk, a bike ride, grilling in the backyard, or enjoying the pool, we hope you take time to recharge and enjoy the day. ☀️🌳

Thank you to all who have served and to the families who continue to carry their legacy. We honor with you today and always. 🇺🇸
