Labor Day weekend is here.

I think sometimes we forget what Labor Day is actually about. It’s not just a 3 day weekend, a day off work or an excuse to fire up the grill.

It’s about the working men and women that keep this country moving. The guys pouring concrete in 95 degree heat. The mechanics turning wrenches. Truck drivers, construction workers, factory workers, farmers, first responders, small business owners and everybody else that gets up every day and goes to work to provide for their family.

I think that’s why this weekend means a little more to us at Anchor Inn. We know what long days look like. We know what working 6 and 7 days a week looks like. We know what it’s like to be tired as hell and still show up because bills don’t care if you’re tired.

So hopefully this weekend you get a chance to enjoy some of what you work so hard for. Take the boat out. Grab the kids. Sit on the bank. Go fishing with your buddies. Shut your phone off for a few hours and make some memories.

We are STOCKED for the weekend.

We will be closed tomorrow Tuesday the 1st and heavily considering closing the shop on Tuesdays going forward until Ice season comes around (if it does) trying to cut down on operating costs and allow us a day away from the shop. As the fishing season winds down we are taking on other projects and I’m personally going to be taking a bartending job during fall/winter season. So just throwing it out there and letting everyone know! With that being said after running the sales report Tuesdays are statistically our slowest day.

OUTDOORSMAN OF THE WEEK NOMINEE — MARK MOORE JR.

Everybody take note, because this is what being a true outdoorsman looks like.

Mark Moore Jr. has been nominated for Anchor Inn’s Outdoorsman of the Week, and it has very little to do with the size of the deer he shoots or the fish he catches.

Mark consistently shows exceptional sportsmanship, ethical hunting and fishing practices, and the kind of integrity we should all strive to represent in the outdoor community.

Whether he’s deer hunting, chasing waterfowl, or out fishing, you’ll often find his kids right there beside him. He isn’t just enjoying the outdoors — he’s passing it down to the next generation and teaching them how to do it the right way.

And his character goes far beyond hunting and fishing.

When Mark isn’t outdoors, he’s pouring concrete six and sometimes seven days a week. He’s a hardworking guy who still finds time to help others.

At the captain’s meeting for our recent catfish tournament, Mark stood up in front of everyone and said that if ANY team had mechanical problems, boat trouble, or needed help during the tournament, call him. He said he would drop what he was doing and come help.

Think about that.

These were people he was competing AGAINST.

That’s sportsmanship.

That’s integrity.

That’s what the outdoor community is supposed to be about.

Being an outdoorsman isn’t measured by antler size, the weight of your biggest fish, the equipment you own, or how many pictures you can post on Facebook. It’s measured by how you carry yourself, how you treat other people, how you respect the resource, and what you teach the generation coming behind you.

Mark Moore Jr. checks every one of those boxes.
