As the season draws to a close, the final highlight goes to a story that had a pretty quiet ending: Karl shot Guardrail - the first and only buck I can definitively say we’ve watched his whole life. In the fall of 2015 a twin buck fawn showed up on the scene with a facial injury that left him with a glossy right eye. The following year, that same fawn showed back up as an awesome young 12-point with a faded eye that didn’t shine on night pictures. Six years later, on a rainy afternoon following Thanksgiving, Karl was in the right place and the right time and got a chance at one of the most special bucks we’ve had the pleasure of hunting - and he made it count. With Guardrail being a loner and a standout most of his life, it was fitting he was hunting alone, as he usually does best. Cheers to another great year in the books, and cheers to Guardrail.
