💪Ready for some before & in progress photos? 💪

Before was taken on 12/4/2019. I started training with .shelby the first week of December 2019. I signed up for the 8 week custom plan with bands! Honestly I haven’t looked back. (I believe she doesn’t offer that anymore but she has plenty of other awesome programs up on her website.) The later picture was taken 8/27 almost 9 month later.

I have put in about 5/6 days a week about an hour each day. There was about a month where I went down to 3/4 days a week because I was traveling but still kept it consistent.
The mix of strength/flexibility/mobility/balance and stretch exercises have really help become a better version of myself and still evolving. Half of the battle is just keep doing it even if you take breaks in between.

Here’s what I know....
-If you put in the time, the body will change.
-You will “feel” the difference before you “see” the difference. Don’t get discouraged when your body is not changing as fast as you like. I saw a significant change month 6/7.
-The longer you commit, it gets easier to build time in to work out. It becomes a lifestyle and not a chore.
-I have more awareness of my body through my exercises that allow me to ride with more compassion then ever before. I think about why the horse can’t execute certain movements and do the same thing I do for myself. Reset body position or do exercises to stretch certain muscle groups to make that movement easier.

Everybody’s body is different, every journey is different this has been my experience and it’s been great! If it worked for my I am confident it will work for you!

Happy training 😊

Sparky had a really bad sinus infection 7 weeks ago that was caused from a cracked tooth. It was so bad he had to get surgery to extract the tooth and drain it out. You always dread making decisions for your older horse but the vets reassured me that it’s a relatively simple surgery and that he will be able to make a full recovery.

I’m happy to announce that his doing really well and has told me he is not quite ready to fully retire. I will keep him for a while longer to get him back in shape before he goes back to his job before all this happened.

Special thanks to Tara who leases Sparky from me that was quick to notice and make the right calls.
To Dr. Richerdson who was the surgeon who extracted the tooth.
And last but not least to my family, .audrey for helping me taking care of him while he recovers.

Taking care of horses truly takes a village and I am so thankful I have the best people around to make sure Sparky is getting the best care.

Swipe for pictures of Frankenstein Sparky.

Something a little different❣️ If your barn is private, very careful shoots are available. What this means: I will be using my telephoto lens from at least 20 feet away and there will be no contact. I will also be wearing gloves and an n95 mask anytime I am handling anything that is not my camera on the property (doorknobs, etc). Photoshoots obviously cannot take place at public barns that are closed. Social distancing will be practiced at its upmost; meaning, as much as I may love you, I won’t come anywhere near you and will call you to share post-shoot chats 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Disclaimer: I would recommended doing this process with a professional because the wrong timing will have a negative impact on the horse

Flagging is the first training tool I go to when I start working with a new horse, no matter the age or discipline. I like using this technique for 3 major reasons.
1. To assess the personality of the horse
2. To teach the concept of pressure & release
3. To desensitize

Flagging is also a great way to establish communication with your horse. Ultimately in training for me I want to have a horse that is in tune with me. I want them to stay calm and always have their focus on me instead of any outside pressure that they want to get away from.
The video is the first day I introduce flagging to “Kiss Me Again”. At this point I had desensitized her enough that she was no longer afraid of it and understood that I was asking for a specific behavior associated with it. I taught her to put her head down when I touch her with the flag. This is the first step of teaching the concept of pressure and that their is always a release or a reward for the correct behavior. Always look for the slightest effort from your horse and always reward them for any small attempt at the correct behavior. You will always be able to bridge any behavior from that point forward. I truly love working with horses cause they always keep me humble, accountable and honest. Happy training everyone!

Follow me as I learn the art of dressage! I will be incorporating my experiencs with horsemanship and jumping into dressage. I truly believe that all disciplines can benefit from one another, and they all translate to having a better connection with your horse.

I'll be sharing some tips and tricks that I have learned during my years on the ground, on the horses, and with horse care. I’m excited to take the next step into my career and see what the future brings!
