Aubree gets her bear on day one 5:40 AM! I have to thank Abraham J Bradeen for everything he has done for my daughter and myself. He went above and beyond again today setting us up for a perfect hunt and never gave up all day. Bear hunting runs in Aubrees family. Her grandfather would be and is so proud of her. A legacy was passed on today. I know he was smiling today.

The hunt. We got into the stand and settled in around 5:12AM. Abe headed down the trail and just after I can't hear the side x side I start hearing the woods wake up. I look its legal time. We'll about 8 mins into legal a bear comes by the bait and into the woods on the other side. I hear it popping for a few minutes. Light gets a little better and Aubree is getting the rifle into position incase the bear comes back out. Then just like that bear is at the bait. Front feet on a stump head in the barrel. Aubree settles on it. She watched it for a bit then asked next time it takes its head out can I shoot? I said let it rip kid! Boom! Perfect shot bear plows back and runs. We let Abe know and he comes up to look. A slight close encounter with some other bears then we got to look for blood. Blood instantly at the hit sight. We were able to follow it into a bog where the bear made its way to the other side and we couldn't find anymore blood or figure out direction of travel. We decide to back out and call a dog. Lindsay and her dog came up and a little after 1:00 PM we located the bear. It had done a 180 in the swamp back tracked and died 100 yards in the opposite direction we thought it went. It was a long hot day but the attitudes were great and we never doubted and kept our head in it and because of that Aubree got to tag and take home her first bear!

I know its long but I am proud of Aubree she has turned into an amazing hunter and I think she stayed more calm than me and Abe 😅. Please enjoy!

My daughter Aubree got drawn for a moose permit! Can't wait to spend this time chasing bulls with her and family!

Good luck tomorrow to everyone who applied for the maine moose lottery! I waited 23 years for my chance and took this nice 50.5" bull. Moose hunts are great family memories! Hoping my oldest daughter is drawn! WMW Member Kody!
