Speakers/Presenters:
Dr. Yosof Wanly is an OSU alumnus, one of the Imam of Salman Al Farsi Islamic Center in Corvallis, A Police Officer at Corvallis P.D., and Oregon Poundโs Brazilian Jiujitsu head instructor. A lifelong martial artist, a world competitive athlete, and a lecturer, Mr.Wanly is Mentored by non-other than 10x Blackbelt Bjj world Champion Lucas Lepri.
Amaiya Zafar is a former, Muslim-American, female boxer who wanted to wear a hijab and leggings while boxing, but the USA Boxing and the International Boxing Association have decided itโs a violation of their uniform code. After years of activism including some painful disqualifications in and outside the boxing arena, fighting with the boxing administrators (figurately) was not exactly the kind of fight she had in mind when she picked up the sport in 2013. But in many ways, it has defined her young boxing career and ultimately was rewarded with a rule change that will outlive her and enshrine her awesome legacy in the boxer field. As a woman from African descent living in Minnesota during the Black Lives Matter protests, she was further impacted by the fallouts and reverberations from the protests.
