This is a very hard thing to do. I honestly never thought anything would ever happen to where I couldn’t work.
In six months after I’ve recovered from this surgery and depending on my bone health I will require my fifth back surgery. I have to go through treatments for six months to hopefully get my bones healthy enough to handle all the screws and hardware.
I’m having a complete fusion from T4 down to my L5 fusion. This surgery will require around a year off of work itself depending on my bone health. I have severe Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis along with Scoliosis.
I will not be able to work for the next year and a half at least. This leaves us relying strictly on Tracy’s salary as a teacher.
The past few years we’ve played catchup due to me having surgery after surgery.
I’ve pushed myself beyond my limits and that’s partially to blame with all of this.
I love guiding and taking my clients fishing and enjoying the experience with them.
It’s such a part of my life and honestly I don’t know how I’m going to make it that long but I have to.
Tracy has carried the burden of our finances during the multiple times I’ve had to have surg
Lord willing after this is over I plan on guiding an occasional trip or two a week if possible. I will have a complete fusion but Tracy is planning on helping me on these trips.
If I have a boat when this is over that is my intention.
Me and Tracy truly appreciate everyone and thank you for your prayers.
We understand it’s truly hard times for a lot of people right now so we understand. My daughter Ashley and my son Colton created the go fund me to hep us. Here’s a direct link if you would like to do that instead. https://cash.app/$ibb1gdaddy2
Your prayers are enough. We appreciate your prayers so much because we know God is in control. We have to trust Him and have faith.
Thank you so much and God Bless.

I just wanted to give an update to everyone. I’ve received text messages and Tracy has tried to respond to most of them. I’ve been in bed over three weeks now including two hospital admissions.
I basically had to admit myself in Baylor ER and then be admitted into Baylor where my surgeon could add me into his schedule. We tried an epidural to see if it would help me but I didn’t get any relief. The next day I couldn’t even apply weight or walk. I had the epidural previously scheduled for my chronic back pain in my lower back at L5-S1 so I could eventually have a nerve ablation done there so I wouldn’t feel pain from those nerves.
Instead they tried it in my L1-L2 to see if it might stop my pain. The epidural didn’t work so now surgery was my only option.
I cannot find any other word but to say I suffered for several days until he could perform my surgery last Tuesday. Keeping my pain level down wasn’t done at all at times due to medication not being given as ordered by the doctor. (That’s a whole different post)
I was having Sciatica pain that was elevating to levels that were unbearable to anyone. I had several occasions while in the hospital my pain escalated and it literally felt like someone was cutting my leg off at the knee.
It would take Dilauded to get it down to manageable levels along with OxyCodone.
It was a rough road to go down but I knew I had to make it to surgery day.
When I awoke from my surgery my pain was gone once again. Dr. Rizkalla has been able to do this on three different occasions since my first surgery in 2024 he done.
Last Tuesday was my fourth back surgery I’ve had. Unfortunately it is not going to be the last one. I will go into that a little later here.
My L1-L2 Disc had ruptured and pushed out applying pressure on the nerves which was causing the severe pain. The surgery which normally takes three hours took five hours to complete. My disc was crushed into the nerve and bone and he had to scape and pick it out. But as always he did an excellent job.
I had surgery at this same location about seven months ago.
My surgeon has tried to do as minimal work on me as possible because of my age and I wanted to still keep going forward as long as I could.
A combination of me pushing myself too hard after these last two surgeries to continue to guide and my health of my bone with Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis and Scoliosis resulted in my condition now.
After I heal up from this surgery in six months I will have another surgery. This will be my fifth back surgery and Lord willing my last or at least a long time before I need another.
I will have a complete fusion from around T4 down to L5. They will take the rods out of the two fusions I have and then I will have two solid rods connecting all the levels together. They will install hardware and screws along with bone grafts in each level along with artificial disc where needed.
Then once the bone grafts take and grow they will completely fuse that section into basically one solid bone.
He couldn’t do this surgery last Tuesday because my bone health is extremely poor.
They are crumbly and brittle in certain areas due to the Osteoporosis.
In 2024 I had to take daily injections for six weeks in my abdomen before my bones were healthy enough to do that surgery. I continued to take the medication for months after my surgery.
Unfortunately my bone health is worse now than it was before.
So I have to at least go through therapy and take medications to hopefully heal my bones and have surgery in six months.
It is absolutely a must that my bone health be restored enough to have surgery and it heal properly. With the amount of screws and hardware that will be in my spine it would be catastrophic if it fails. I would be in far worse shape than I currently am.
I’m currently taking the daily injections but I’m waiting to see my Rheumatologist then I will know what she’s going to do as far as my bone health. I’m thinking they will put me on more medication along with it but not sure.
Me and Tracy are keeping our faith that God will see us through this trial. I have a long road to recovery on this one.
I will not be able to work for the next year and a half. While recovering from this surgery I’m on limitations because of my bone health and this current fusion. I can’t do anything to injure myself or damage the work that’s been done.
I’m not a quitter or weak I’ve pushed myself so hard trying to keep going. Apparently far more than I should have. I can’t take all the blame however because of the bone diseases I have. They have wrecked my spine and that’s just how it is.
I’m praying Dr. Rizkalla can fix everything and give me at least some relief and some time of peace in my life.
I can’t set here and tell you I’m all cheerful and doing great because I’m not.
I have made a living guiding and knowing that’s over at least a year and a half is very hard on me.
Not just the financial part of course but I love what I do. I love being outside and watching the sunset and sunrises.
I love my clients and watching them catch fish.
I love it too when I can go myself or take my family or Tracy.
It’s a huge loss in my life and a part of me. To some it may seem silly but to me it’s what I love.
This has been extremely hard on Tracy as well but my baby is a ROCK !
I thank God for her everyday she is a blessing to me.
I just wanted to let everyone that had messaged and asked about me what was going on.
I do have a few people I need to contact regarding trips that are scheduled and I plan on doing that this week.
I wished Tracy happy birthday the other day and that the last time I’ve touched my phone until now. I have a lot of text to return but hopefully this will let people know how we are doing.
Tracy went back to work finally today she’s been off with me for several weeks now.
We will be posting some things we have for sale in the coming future. One is my Jetboat and the other is a place we have at Pelican Isle. If you ever wanted a weekend place here close to Richland Chambers it’s great. It has an older fifth wheel trailer on it as well as a storage building.
It’s been a struggle on us these past few years due to having multiple surgeries back to back but we are keeping the faith.
We appreciate all of your prayers and love.
God bless,
Chris

11 years later 🗓⏳👣
Still putting clients on Alligator Gar even in the Winter.
I had a successful trip ten days ago and here’s a picture from my clients ten years ago.
I will be running limited Alligator Gar trips this year.
My trips aren’t the cheapest on the market. You can find bargain trips no problem nowadays.
I’m not a bargain guide however. I’ve been chasing these fish a long time. I have one of the nicest, largest and most comfortable boats on the river period.
I will have a hired deck hand along on most of my trips to help me with the heavy work. Like pulling giant Alligator Gar up on the deck.
That’s one reason for my pricing being more than the cheaper options out there.
If interested in booking one of my Trophy Alligator Gar rod and reel trips on the Trinity River give me a call or send me a message.
I’m only going to run a limited amount of trips on the lake and the river period due to my health issues and just constant back pain. I need so many days to recover after being on the water.
If interested in booking one of these trips I would advise getting on my schedule because there will only be a limited amount.
So don’t miss out on your chance to catch one of Freshwaters biggest fish.
