One of the most common issues I see with young hitters is cutting the barrel across the zone instead of staying through the middle, getting full extension and holding direction. 🎯
Christian’s been working on fixing that, and this is one of my favorite drills to help it click 👇
I set up three cones in a straight line with the tee and have the hitter focus on driving the barrel directly through the ball. I’ll pause them at full extension to make sure they’re reaching that position instead of staying tight with the elbows pinned to the body. Some of the cues that I tell the hitters is to “hit every ball on the line” or “keep the barrel on that path as long as possible”. Simple, clear verbal cues like this make a big difference for young hitters. 🧪
This helps eliminate that down and across, cutty type of swing that leads to weak, pull-side ground balls with topspin. The cones and ball give a clear visual, which makes a huge difference for younger players. Also, notice how every single ball Christian hit was to center field or right center. That wouldn’t be possible without a proper bat path. 💯
If your athlete is struggling with similar issues, I’d love to help. 💪
