We know our runners carry people with them from Corolla to Hatteras. We see it in the name written on a bib, a patch on a pack.

Memorial Day means different things to different people, but we know some of our runners will head out for miles today carrying those people with them.

We're thinking of those names today.

Part of the fun of Blackbeard’s is that the weekend starts before the race even begins.

Friday night packet pickup fells like a reunion of runners, crews, volunteers, and staff getting ready to head south down the OBX together the next morning.

We’ve secured the 2027 host hotel and packet pickup location:

Comfort Inn South Oceanfront, Nags Head

This is where Friday packet pickup will take place. It’s a short walk to Jennette’s Pier, where the 100K starts, about an hour from the 100 Mile & Relay start in Corolla, and about 1 hour 15 minutes from the finish line at The Wreck in Hatteras.

Current hotel pricing is at early booking rates and is expected to increase as race weekend gets closer. If you already know you’re coming to the OBX next March, it’s not a bad time to lock in your room.

One of the best parts of Blackbeard's is the range of ability levels we see in our participants. Ultras ARE a big deal, but once you start talking to people who've run Blackbeard's you realize it's not just for veteran ultra runners.

Last year, both Josh Lecrone and Chase Price reset the course record, running 14:44:09 and 15:28:28. There are people out there running some fast times!

The 100 Mile course is open 32 hours and the 100K course is open 27.5 hours. There are runners who use every last second on their way to Hatteras.

There are plenty of runners stepping up to the distance for the first time at Blackbeard's, like Jackie (Salty Ginger) and Mad Molly last year in the 100 Mile and 100K.

There are plenty of runners who choose to bring pacers and crew, and plenty who take on the weekend with the help of our amazing aid station volunteers.

And don't forget the Relay. Our Relay teams are the heart of the race. When they're not running they're fiercely cheering on other runners they've never met before, keeping Blackbeard's spirt alive as they leapfrog from one aid station to the next. If you've ever wanted to experience the ultra community, but you're not quite ready to run it solo, don't sleep on the Relay.

You settle into a rhythm out as you head from Historic Corolla Park and Jennette's Pier to Hatteras.

Long stretches of road. The ocean off to one side. Houses, dunes, open sky.

It’s flat. But not easy. What ultra is?

The bridges come up just enough to break things up. Basnight especially. Something to work different muscles and throw you a challenge.

And then there’s the wind.

Some years it’s nothing. Some years it’s in your face for miles. Sand, gusts, just enough to make you pay attention. You wanted a coastal ultra marathon, right?

You can see a long way ahead of you. Sometimes that helps. Sometimes it doesn’t.

It's a unique course that asks you to prove you're worth of it's namesake.

Registration opened Friday, and we're getting excited for 2027.

27 runners are already in for the 100 Mile. 5 for the 100K.

Runners coming in from North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and beyond.

Some familiar names are already on the list:

Luke K. is coming back for his fifth Blackbeard’s Revenge 100 Mile.
Christian L. is in for year six!
Madison J. made sure she was in right at midnight to get revenge on 2026.

It's never too early to sign yer name to the Ultra Pirate roll.

You're running down a long stretch of Highway 12. Maybe you just made it over the Basnight Bridge. You're tired. You have sand in your shoe. And then you hear the aid station. You arrive to volunteers ready to take care of you.

"What's your bib number?"
"Bib 123 in!"
"Drop bag for bib 123!"
"What do you need? Gels? Tailwind? Bacon?"
"Do you want your Coke flat or bubbly?"
"Do you need me to refill your flask?"

You can stay for a few minutes, or you can roll in and right back out. If you need a hug, they're ready. If you need tough love, they've got that, too. They're ready to help you get to Hatteras.
