One of our goals for Blackbeard's Revenge 100 is that we're welcoming and accessible to ultra runners stepping up to a new distance. Here's how we do it:
Virtual Meetings: We offer 3 optional virtual meetings in the 20 weeks leading up to the race where you can ask Coaches Steve and Caleb training questions, ask the Race Director race weekend questions, ask Ambassadors and each other gear questions, and ease your anxiety. We then host a mandatory pre-race virtual meeting for all athletes to attend to ensure you're safe and prepared. You have SO Many opportunities to connect and ask questions!
Aid Stations & Drop Bags: You can absolutely run this race without a crew. You'll pass through 19 aid stations. Our volunteers treat you like their own. You have multiple drop bags that can fit the kitchen sink. And of course the support of the other runners with whom you'll take on this challenge is legendary.
The Course Itself: This course is flat. You of course have to take on the Bonner (Basnight) Bridge, the weather is temperamental, and the mind games are no joke. But we'll leave the roots, rocks, and climbing for another day.
The Facebook Community: This group is so willing to help. Many of the members have run the race at least once, if not several times. Ambassadors will jump in and help. There are former crew members and volunteers with an active presence. The race staff is there to answer questions, too.
Blackbeard's Revenge 100 Community
We want you to show up race weekend with zero worries, other than whether your legs can carry you to Hatteras. And that, my salty friends, is a question for March 20-21, 2027. We'll see ye in the OBX, ultra pirates.
