6 months old and already learning a life-saving swim skill. 🏊‍♀️💙

With consistent, age-appropriate instruction, babies can learn important water skills such as breath control, submersion, resurfacing, and floating. These skills are taught progressively and are based on each child’s individual development and readiness.

Swim lessons are one layer of drowning prevention, not a substitute for supervision. Always use multiple layers of protection, including active adult supervision, secure pool barriers, and water safety education.

Thanks you Jerika V Holweger

⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This skill was performed by a trained infant swim professional in a controlled environment with appropriate supervision. Do not attempt to replicate this with your baby or child. Infant swim skills must be taught by a qualified instructor using developmentally appropriate methods. No swim lesson can “drown-proof” a child or guarantee survival in an emergency. Never leave a child unattended around water.

7 months old, performing a flip to the surface, rolling onto her back to float, and calmly waiting for help.

The goal isn’t simply to resurface. The baby is learning what to do after reaching the surface: establish a float, stay calm, conserve energy, and wait for assistance.

These skills are built through consistent, age-appropriate practice. Babies can learn, and floating is the foundation of swimming at every age.

⚠️ Swim lessons are an additional layer of drowning prevention, not a substitute for active adult supervision, secure pool barriers, and other layers of protection.

Practicing since 5 months old. More than 16 lessons. Consistent training. Nothing here is by luck.

This baby has learned breath control, how to roll over to the back, find a floating position, and remain calm while waiting for help.

Babies are capable of learning real water-survival skills. Their natural aquatic reflexes can be developed and refined through proper, consistent instruction until they become purposeful skills.

Some viewers feel uncomfortable watching an infant perform swim skills. That reaction is understandable, especially when we’ve been taught to think of babies as completely helpless. But infants are very capable of in the water far more than many people realize when they are properly and safely taught.

And to be clear: this baby is healthy, has completed more than 16 lessons, and is performing a skill that has been specifically taught and practiced.

There is no “dry drowning” happening here. This is a trained infant demonstrating learned survival skills.

⚠️ NEVER attempt to recreate or teach these skills on your own. Infant aquatic training must be performed by a qualified professional in a controlled environment. Improper attempts can result in serious injury, drowning, or death.

Swim skills are another layer of protection. They never replace active adult supervision, barriers, and other layers of water safety.

Six months old and floating like he was made for it. Calm, confident, curious, and splashing away. 💦

We’re created to adapt to water, and introducing it early can help build comfort and confidence before fear and resistance develop.

Don’t wait until the toddler years, when learning can become more challenging, especially for children who have become dependent on floaties.

Start early. Keep it positive. Let them learn to trust the water.

⚠️ Infant swim lessons require professional instruction. Never attempt these skills at home without proper training.

She is 3 years old.

She had already taken swim lessons at a traditional swim school, but she still couldn’t swim. Her parents weren’t satisfied with the results, so they brought her to me.

On her very first lesson, she walked into the water without understanding what would happen if she fell in. She quickly found herself in a drowning position, unable to breathe, and began crying.

That first lesson taught her something important: water is not something you can simply walk into. You need skills to be able breathe.

Over the next 13 lessons, she worked hard. Yes, she cried. But we kept building her skills, confidence, and understanding of the water.

Then came Lesson 14.

She practiced the sequence:

SWIM → FLOAT → SWIM

No crying. No panic. Completely calm. She knew what to do.

This is why parents need to look beyond the words “swim lessons.” Ask yourself: Is my child actually learning life-saving skills?

At House of Aquatics FL, I focus on teaching children, including babies, to independently find air, float, recover, and eventually swim. These skills give children something incredibly important: knowledge of what to do when they are in the water.

Knowledge is power.

And when a child knows what to do, there is less room for panic and anxiety.

SWIM. FLOAT. SWIM.

That’s what I teach.

Thank you for your trust

Adult supervision. Pool fences. Alarms. CPR preparedness. These are all important layers of protection against drowning.

But the reality is, babies and young children are still drowning.

That’s why swim lessons should be another layer of protection. Teaching a baby breath control, floating, and how to resurface can give them a chance to survive if the other layers fail.

There is no single layer that makes a child “drown-proof.” But adding another layer of protection can make a difference.

There is no harm in teaching a baby life-saving water skills. There is only more protection. 🏊‍♂️

6 months old, learning the foundation of swimming. 🏊‍♂️💙

Floating is one of the most important skills a swimmer can learn. It builds body control, confidence, and the foundation needed to develop stronger swimming skills at every age.

For infants, learning to float can also provide a critical layer of drowning prevention.

Swim lessons matter. But they should always be combined with active adult supervision, secure barriers, and water safety. When adult supervision fails swim lessons can save lives.

Did you know a crawling baby or toddler usually falls into a pool head-first?
A crawling baby or toddler usually falls into a pool head-first often because they go after a toy on the deck or floating in the water.
That is not a drill to try at home. Never leave toys near the water, never test this with your child, and never take your eyes off them around a pool.
I’m a professional swim instructor. Always seek qualified swim instruction. Supervision is not optional.

Too many lives are lost to drowning every year, especially among children under 5.

Adult supervision is a must. But when supervision fails, the skills a child has already learned can make all the difference.

As a swim instructor, I teach babies, toddlers, children of all ages, and adults. I’ve taught countless babies over many months, and seeing them safely develop these skills firsthand is why I believe swim lessons are one of the best investments a parent can make in their child’s safety.

Swim lessons are one layer of drowning prevention. Supervision, barriers, education, and CPR preparedness add the others.

A baby can start drowning in seconds.
Silently. In inches of water. While you’re looking away for one moment.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4.
Waiting until they’re “old enough” doesn’t protect them. It just puts them at risk.
Only at 4 months old they can already begin learning the skills that keep them alive:
breath control, rolling to float, finding air.
Their bodies are ready. Fear hasn’t taken hold yet. The process is simpler, faster, more natural.
Wait until they’re older and you’re fighting fear, resistance, and harder habits. The window is open now.
