Great local hunting seminar opportunity!

Are you an avid turkey hunter who wants to tune up your skills before the 2026 Spring Turkey Season? Or are you a beginner who's going through the frustration of learning how to successfully hunt wild turkey? Maybe you're somewhere in between? What if you're just interested in turkey hunting and don't know how to get started? Well, regardless of your skill level or knowledge, the NWTF Oregon Coastal Cutters Chapter is excited to present the 2026 NWTF-Oregon Turkey Tune-Up this coming Saturday, March 21st at 8:00 AM at the Myrtle Point Sportsmen's Gun Club! This event is open to all ages, so bring the whole family for a fun filled morning with The National Wild Turkey Federation full of outdoor education, hands on learning, and participation prizes!

Welcome to Hunter Education - Coos County, Oregon. Learning to hunt is an adventure that can last a lifetime, and ODFW Hunter Education is a great way to start. This course provides a thorough introduction to the skills hunters need, such as firearm safety, hunter ethics, wildlife identification and hunt preparation. We hope you find this page helpful. This is a great event where we teach hunters everything they need to be successful turkey hunting! We have a great group of volunteers from Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Hunter Education Instructors, Oregon Hunters Association, and The National Wild Turkey Federation who are all coming together to help teach safe and ethical hunting techniques! Come join us!

We're happy to announce we will be partnering with Douglas County Outdoor Awareness for the Bust A Strut Turkey Workshop at the Roseburg Rod & Gun Club again this year! Huge success last year! Tickets were sold out last year and we predict it will sell out even quicker this year! Get your tickets asap before they’re all gone!

We have a great class today from North Bend High School out at the Tioga Sports Park! If you’re looking for a safe place to shoot in Coos County, please check out this range! As of now, it has a 100 yard range, a pistol range, and an archery range; but in later stages of development, it will have a 300 yard and 600 yard range as well!

It was a great event with so many of our past and future Hunter Education students!

We had a great class today! 5 of the 13 students earned a Bi-Mart gift card by getting 100% on their exam! Just a little token of gratitude from our instructor cadre to the students who paid close attention and learned all the information on the test!

And of course there’s the .22lr rifle range! Students get to display proper implementation of all the safety rules and firearm operation knowledge they received, while firing some live rounds in a safe, controlled environment!

Here is the Hunter’s Trail, where students learn about shoot / don’t shoot scenarios! Topics include animal positioning, animal vitals, safe backdrops, shotgun patterns, bag limits, blood trails, etc.!

The students also learn how to safely cross fences with fi****ms and how to safely handle fi****ms placing them into / removing them from vehicles!

Here the students are learning about Action Sets! They learn about the difference between bolt action & lever action rifles, as well as break action, over/under, pump, and semiautomatic shotguns! Learning about these different actions and the different safety features of several firearm manufacturers are a crucial component of hunter safety!
