Here's some wisdom: "For many hikers, the biggest challenge is giving permission to make time for themselves again. But what’s always true is that a 45-minute hike is infinitely better than a 6-hour hike that never happens."

One tip: Don't let the perfect time, day or weather be the enemy of a good trek.

Congrats to Tom Walsh who completed his 7th Charity Challenge Hike today! 138+ miles of the Northville-Lake Placid Trail done in less time than he planned. We are so grateful to Tom for raising funds for Otsego Outdoors and Bassett Cancer Institute. We'll announce the total raised soon, just received a very generous donation today so there is still time to give! He is hoping to raise $5,000. Tom's Charity Hike Challenge Update: He has completed about 40 miles in 3 1/2 days. He has a challenging day ahead with an uphill climb, but is in good spirits and has met some nice folks who encouraged him on his goal, and even made a donation!

On Friday, July 31, Tom Walsh will set out on his 7th Charity Hike Challenge. He will be hiking the 138 mile Northville-Lake Placid Trail southbound in a continuous thru-hike, and raising funds for Otsego Outdoors and patient services at the Bassett Cancer Institute. We'll be tracking his progress on our website, where you can also make a donation and encourage Tom on his hike. The trail is known for its mud, trail relocations, overgrown sections, and beaver activity, so a challenge it will be!
