Kyle Woolly and David Muniz spent the last two days doing what Advanced Open Water is supposed to be about—getting more comfortable, more confident, and a little better at this whole scuba diving thing.

Instructor Jansen Reese kept them busy with plenty of time underwater, some new challenges, and probably at least a little “you sure you wanna do it that way?” along the way.

Both guys wrapped it up and are now NAUI Advanced Open Water certified.

Congrats Kyle and David! Now the fun really starts.

Apparently the paddle board ride went great.

Keeping the ring in the pocket… not so much.

After the trip, the owner realized the ring had fallen out into the water. Luckily, they knew where it happened, so Tim Knight geared up, went down and brought it right back.

One quick dive, one very happy owner, and another item rescued from an unexpected swim.

At this point, Tim may need a punch card for recoveries. 😂

Jimmy Hunt and Charles R***r joined the Nitrox club!

They recently completed their NAUI Nitrox Certification with NAUI Instructor Jansen Reese.

A little classroom time, a little math, a few laughs, and now they can officially be those divers checking the Nitrox sticker before every dive.

Congratulations Jimmy and Charles!

Jacob Lewis and Stormy Winters spent the weekend working on skills you hope you never have to use.

They completed Basic Life Support CPR & First Aid with NAUI Course Director Tim Knight, then moved into NAUI Rescue Diver with Instructor Richard Reagan.

There’s a lot more to Rescue than dragging somebody through the water. It’s about staying calm, figuring out what’s actually going on, and knowing what to do next when a dive starts getting sideways.

Great job Jacob and Stormy. That’s some training worth having.

That’s a two-for-one kind of week.

Bobby Brown knocked out both his NAUI Open Water Certification and Full Face Mask Certification with NAUI Instructor Kevin Felts and Divemaster Nick Redding.

Going from learning the basics of scuba to getting comfortable diving a full face mask is a pretty big jump, and Bobby put in the work to get it done.

Congratulations Bobby! Welcome to the dive world… now the real fun starts. 😎

TRAINING vs. CERTIFICATION

There are two ways to earn a scuba certification. Instructors can check the boxes, run you through the required skills, hand you a certification card and send you on your way. Or you can receive quality training that actually prepares you to be a diver.

There’s a BIG difference. We want to be clear- some instructors we know and work with take training seriously and meet or exceed the same high standards we strive for at Nautical Adventures. There are some instructors out there who genuinely care about producing safe, capable divers.

Unfortunately, not every diver is receiving that level of training. A certification card doesn’t automatically equal competency.

Good training takes time. It takes repetition. It takes an instructor who actually cares whether you understand what you’re doing and not just whether you can get through the skill once.

A great instructor has patience, experience, knowledge and most importantly, passion for diving and teaching. They don’t just teach you how to pass a class. They help build the foundation you’ll use on every dive after it.

At Nautical Adventures, we try to raise the bar, not do the minimum to get you certified.

Because when you’re 80 feet underwater, your safety depends a whole lot more on what you actually learned than what certification card is in your wallet.

Don’t just get certified. Get trained.

Contact us today to get enrolled and start your training with Nautical Adventures.

We’ve still got a few spots open for our NAUI Advanced Open Water class September 5th & 6th!

Open Water gives you the basics. Advanced is about getting more time underwater and putting those skills to work.

Over the two days we’ll work on things like navigation, deep diving, limited visibility, search & recovery, dive planning and just becoming a more comfortable, confident diver.

You don’t need a ton of dives to take Advanced either. If you’re Open Water certified and ready to keep learning, come dive with us.

September 5th & 6th

Give us a call and we’ll get you signed up.

Ryan Orman knocked out his NAUI Sidemount Certification with NAUI Instructor Richard Reagan!

These two didn’t exactly rush through it either. They spent over 5 hours underwater working on different Sidemount configurations, SAC rates, gas management, dive planning, trim and getting everything dialed in the way it should be.

Sidemount is a pretty slick way to dive once you learn to do it right. Easier access to your tanks and valves, great gas redundancy, less weight hanging on your back, easier tank handling and a setup you can adjust to fit the dive.

Of course, it also gives you approximately 47 new clips, boltsnaps and little pieces of gear to obsess over. 😂

Congrats Ryan! Another certification earned the Nauti way — plenty of training, plenty of water time and no shortage of bubbles.

Another one is officially Nauti! 🤿

Meghan Brown finished up her NAUI Open Water Certification with Instructor Kevin Felts leading the way.

Meghan put in the work, learned the skills and built the foundation every good diver needs. Now she’s officially certified and ready to start putting those skills to use.

Open Water isn’t the finish line. It’s really just where the fun starts. Every dive is a chance to get a little better, learn something new and become a more confident diver.

Great job, Meghan! Welcome to the Nauti family. Now let’s go make some bubbles!
