Now its time to introduce our instructors!
Next up we have MAGGIE PELTON who instructs Ballet II, III/IV, Pre-Pointe/Pointe, and Modern II and III classes.

"Maggie grew up in the New Jersey Ballet Company. Her studies expanded to other disciplines while receiving her BFA in dance from The Juilliard School and intensive training at the Martha Graham and Jose Limon schools in New York City. After being awarded a scholarship from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, she was asked to join Ailey II which performed across the United States and the Caribbean. Ms. Maggie had the great honor of being the last female chosen by Alvin Ailey himself to join his first company, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater which tours internationally. While living in southern California and now Nashville, Maggie has danced in television commercials, music videos and has gone on to teach, choreograph, and act as a consultant for dance and fitness in various projects. After many years of teaching for Nashville Ballet and performing with its resident modern dance company Epiphany, she currently is an adjunct professor of dance at Belmont University and David Lipscomb University, is a founding faculty member of Cookeville Leisure Services School of Dance, is on the dance faculty at Harpeth Hall School for Girls, teaches ballet to figure skaters and continues to serve as a guest artist choreographing, teaching master classes and dance workshops in ballet, modern and jazz disciplines from coast to coast. Maggie has been teaching with LSSoD since 1996."

Next up we have JAN CARTER STUMBO who instructs Theatre Jazz I/II/III classes, Ballet II/III/IV, and Pre-Pointe/Pointe classes.

"For over 40 years Jan has worked professionally as a dance instructor, choreographer and AFAA certified personal trainer. Intensive training in classical ballet, classical jazz (Giordano), musical theatre, and modern dance enabled a career including performance opportunities across the United States. Jan was honored to open for Tony Bennett as a lead dancer with The David Humphreys Orchestra, performed a solo in Amy Grant's Tennessee Christmas; and was a lead in Best Little Wh******se in Texas, along with a variety of commercial projects including CMT’s Top 20 Countdowns and numerous commercials. Jan was a lead dancer, rehearsal director and founding member of Epiphany, a modern dance company expressing faith through dance in Nashville. Jan was also the assistant director for seven years at Franklin Classical School, choreographing their spring musicals including Titanic, Scarlett Pimpernel, Fiddler on the Roof and Comedy of Errors and Ruth. Currently, Jan is teaching at Cookeville Leisure Services School of Dance and Fellowship School of Dance in Franklin, TN. Jan also offers wedding first-dance lessons and personal fitness classes to clients in Middle Tennessee, and is available for master classes, workshops, and choreography in any location. Jan began teaching with LSSoD in 2007."

"Megan is excited to join Cookeville Leisure Services as a tap instructor. She has danced for most of her life and has taught tap to students ages 5–18. Megan enjoys helping dancers build confidence, musicality, and a love for movement in a fun, encouraging environment. Outside the studio, she works in community development, is an award-winning writer, and is the proud mom of her daughter, Dorothy."

"Jenny’s love for dance began in childhood. Jenny holds a BA in Dance from Radford University, where she studied classical ballet and modern dance. While pursuing an additional degree in Landscape Architecture at Clemson University, Jenny danced with the Greenville Ballet. She instructs young dancers in the foundations of ballet and modern dance. In addition to technique, her dancers explore creativity, musicality, and build self-confidence through the art of dance. Presently, she enjoys the balance of her love of dance through teaching and choreography with her love of nature through designing landscapes and gardens. Jenny began teaching with LSSoD in 2014."

First up we have EMILY ROSE LINDE who instructs Dance for Young Children Intro, I, and II

"Emily Rose grew up in Cookeville, Tennessee. She attended Tennessee Technological University where she received her Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education degree and licenses. She currently teaches 1st grade at Jere Whitson Elementary School. Emily Rose began taking dance classes when she was four years old. Throughout her childhood and young adulthood, she continued dancing at local dance studios. Dance has always been a central component of her life. She believes it is a language that demonstrates strength, grace, and honest emotion. Emily Rose feels that when young children dance, they build self-esteem, body awareness, and experience joy in creating their own movement. She is honored to be a part of Leisure Services School of Dance and the lives of these young dancers. Emily began teaching with LSSoD in 2017."

✨Leisure Services School of Dance is offering two new Tap Classes!✨

Tap I is perfect for dancers that are either new to Tap or still building their foundation. This class is a great way for young dancers to explore rhythm and sound while building a strong tap foundation in a supportive and energetic environment.

Adult Recreational Tap is a beginner-friendly class that welcomes adults of all experience levels. This class emphasizes enjoyment, creativity, and the satisfaction of making rhythm with your feet.

Meet Your Summer School of Dance Instructors! ✨

Spend your summer dancing with us at the Cane Creek Recreation Center! Our talented instructors are excited to help dancers of all ages build technique, confidence, creativity, and a love for movement.

🩰 Zyanya Knight
A former LSSOD student and teacher's assistant, Zyanya is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Dance at Middle Tennessee State University. She brings experience in a variety of dance styles and is passionate about inspiring dancers to grow both artistically and technically.

🩰 Jenny Thurman
For the past 12 years, Jenny has taught young dancers the foundations of ballet and modern dance through the Leisure Services School of Dance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Radford University and has performed with The Greenville Ballet.

🩰 Aasta Thurman
Aasta grew up dancing in the LSSOD program and served as a teacher's assistant for multiple years. She recently graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in Exercise and Health Sciences and will begin a Doctor of Physical Therapy program this fall.

Cookeville Leisure Services School of Dance is excited to announce our summer session at Cane Creek Recreation Center.

This summer, we are offering the same quality dance instruction in a flexible drop-in format. All classes are $10 per class, with registration and payment taken at the Cane Creek Recreation Center front desk.

Join us May 8 & May 9 at CPAC as our talented dancers from Leisure Services School of Dance take the stage and showcase all their hard work this season.
