I wanted to find something that shows the deep history of Basketball in our local community.
🏀 Before the bright lights and packed gyms… there were the Speed Queens.
Girls basketball was already thriving in the 1920s — often playing the same night before the boys varsity game. In 1928, the Swayzee girls team made their mark in a big way.
The 1927–1929 squad compiled an incredible 25–4 record, highlighted by a jaw-dropping 93–21 victory over Sweetser, led by Bernice Smith’s 73-point performance. Talk about filling it up! 🔥
