Part Two from the TusseyMtn Glacier: two days of racing crammed into one, a whole lot of hardware, and zero cases of frostbite.

Long day. Worth it. Especially when TMART runs an event this dialed.

Congrats to every competitor - let’s run it back this season!

It’s disgusting out in the , so let’s flash back to the exact opposite - the weekend our U12s and U14s descended on the polar vortex known as TusseyMtn. The of .

Wind, air temps, windchill: all aggressive enough that Saturday’s SL got called off. Which just meant a full day of State College’s cultural offerings - Olympics on the hotel TV, women’s basketball, and a stop at the Penn State Berkey Creamery. To cool off. Obviously.

Sunday the sun came out and the wind went calm-ish, so the race was on. And by the race, we mean two races, four runs, one day. Early start, late finish, and the kids and parents showed up for every bit of it. Podium pics to follow. For now - feel the cold.

It’s August. Time to get into the zone for season. In fact we were so in the zone last season we forgot a couple posts. So to help us all get back into the zone we’re going to catch up with a few posts of highlights from last season. Starting with recapping our U18’s PA Cups 3 thru 5 at Blue Mountain Resort, where weather was a big factor. It wasn’t, however, for the -G on Friday, February 6th, where Desmo Treiber raced a deceptively challenging course to 6th place (5th for U18/21 athletes).

On Saturday the Razor’s Edge piste was plagued by strong uphill winds, gusting as high as 60 miles per hour and strengthening as the day progressed. The was officially cancelled after the first run, though that run saw a standout performance from Brielle Superczynski, one of the U16s invited to race at these events.

Fortunately the wind mostly abated for the slalom on Sunday, though the start was moved down Razor’s Edge as a precaution. In the men’s race our top finisher was Austin Ihnat in 19th place (6th for U16s). For the women, it was 13th and 14th for Claire and Brielle Superczynski - never doubt sibling power! Brielle was 3rd for U16s.

As a young parent, you’ll have a wild idea to put your kid on skis and sign them up for the local race team.

It’s very important that you do.

Because years later...those gates, those friends, those freezing early mornings, those heart-pounding finishes - they become everything.

And the lifelong gift of skiing? It lasts forever.

This year, LMRT says farewell to three seniors - Claire Superczynski, JP Andrews, and Sienna Gala. We are so thankful to their parents for having that wild idea years ago and acting on it.

To our seniors: thank you for everything you’ve given this team! Although we say farewell for now, we can’t wait to see you ripping on snow again soon. Keep the passion alive - the snow isn’t going anywhere, and neither is this family.

The racing season is long. The early mornings are real. The gear bags are heavy and the coffee never seems to last long enough.

But weekends like this past one are a great end-of-season reminder of why we do this.

More than 50 of us from LMRT descended on the Governors Cup at - ages 7 to 70, parents included - and the energy was all time. The cheering was loud. The camaraderie was real.

Hat tip to Timberline and the Timberline Race Team for an incredible two days of racing!

And when it was over, we filled 31 spots on the podium across , , and combined - and even shared the podium with our .whitetail friends!

We’re solidly in the post season - it’s time to turn up the !

What a weekend at U12 State Championships!!!!

put on an absolute clinic of an event - sunny and warm to start, wet and cold by the end. Classic ski racing. Our kids handled all of it.

State Championships sounds intimidating. And honestly? It is. But it’s also commemorative hoodies, a ’mores party, a pizza fest, and a weekend of friendships built across age groups and across teams. Our crew was the loudest on that hill - cheering each other through every single run, from the start gate to the awards. Siblings, parents, the whole LMRT family showing up loud and proud.

That’s the stuff you remember.

Making it to this day was the real win for every one of these kids. The season of early mornings, long drives, and hard work on that hill - it all led here. And we couldn’t be more proud of every athlete who raced this weekend.

AND NOW FOR THE BIG NEWS

After an incredible weekend of racing, four of our U12 girls - Pichamon Tulachom, Arielle Shif, Elin Bussey, and Hadley Miller - and U12 boy Jack Deming have earned spots on the Pennsylvania State Team. They’re headed to , NH to represent PA at the Francis Piché Invitational.

That’s LMRT on the Eastern stage. FULL SEND!

To everyone else - back to the grindstone. We train. We get better. We have fun. We show up next season ready. That’s what this team does!

What a weekend. What a team!!!

WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore came out to see what we're all about, and Sean Streicher crushed it!

"This isn't New England, it's not Colorado. So, yeah, it's a big surprise for people that there's actually ski racing in the area." - Matt Superczynski, LMRT President

That's the thing. We've been doing this since 1976. 100 athletes. 75 families. Kids ripping gates in the dark, in the cold, in the blowing snow - not because it's easy, but because it builds something.

The are on TV this month. Ski racing is also happening right here, a short drive from and .

Tryouts are this weekend. Link in bio.

Alpine Ski Racing is fast-paced sport that requires a love for speed with deep roots in Colorado and Utah, but a local team attracts skiers from across Maryland.
