Let's summarize the Eriez Speedway September Sweep weekend with lots of details and maybe some expression! Super super long!
Friday- Super late qualified 8th quick.
Heat Race- Started off pole to to the 9k. Not a great start and jumped the cushion into 3 loosing 2 spots finishing 4th.
Went back to the pits and found that our brand new water pump had a seal leaking. Shout out to Ashton Briggs and his team for the Bars Stop Leak
Super Feature - We put in the stop leak, ran a couple laps, but temps shot up quickly and he pulled off. Back to work again!
Crate Late Qualifying - Not bad 5th quick overall. Just a touch loose.
Crate Heat - This is where it gets frustrating. Started outside pole (2nd) Front row has a good start together, yet the guy in 2nd row got a better start as he was 1/2 way next to the pole as they were taking the green. Should have been called back and restarted but they let it go. (No blame to the guy in 2nd row he took the opportunity and it worked out). Breyton ended up on the outside of the redraw and finished 3rd. This positioned him to start 8th for Sat. nights feature.
This error or missed insight on the start by the flag crew matters, (Yes they are human and make errors, yet their timing of errors just happens conveniently at the wrong time for us. Lol) Every position matters with such a tough group of drivers.
Should have noted earlier, Breyton was in a battle with the #21 for the RUSH Late Model Series Track Pack Championship, tied going into this last night. This is extra cash the series puts up to help the racers out at the weekly level. Thank you Vicky and Mike!

Saturday looked like rain, felt like rain, spit rain, and we raced. Shout out to Dave for sticking it out, moving the time up and getting the race in along with great track prep!
Superlate Oberg filter had some particles in it, not looking great. We changed out fan to help with cooling and decided to run it.
Super Qualifying- 9th quick.
Heat Race- Started 3rd behind the pair of Eck's. Had to work hard, but got by the 03, closed the 20 down, but just couldn't get by for the win finishing 2nd. Congrats to Nicholas on the heat win!
Super Feature- Started 5th lost a position or 2 at the start as we went with an overall harder compound selection. Part way through the race the tires came in and Breyton started picking them off moving from 6th to 3rd and closed down Oaks pulling up to his left rear. Just need a couple more laps and may have grabbed the 2 spot. 3rd was not bad. Congrats to Dave Hess on his win! This message may have to be forwarded to the time zone he was in. Haha!
CRATE FEATURE-
Starting 8th Breyton need to finish in front of the 21 for the Track Pack Title. We chose again to go with harder tires. We were OK at the start running around the 6th, 7th swapping back and forth with Kyle Z. The longer the race, our car was getting better.
On another restart Genco, and Chess came together going into turn 3 three sending Genco spinning. Breyton was behind them and took evasive action going to the outside of the surface out by the concrete wall to avoid the contact and continued around back on to the groove. He never stopped or 1/2 spun. He did not even touch the 29 car or any other car. Only 1 car was sitting there spun and stopped, the 29. Flag crew said Breyton was part of the caution, said it appeared through the dust that he spun also. THEY MADE A CALL THAT THEY COULD NOT CLEARLY SEE OR VERIFY, EXCEPT BY ?? Well not sure, maybe someone out there can explain what happen to us?
Wait, I will explain it for you. I was standing in 3 and saw Breyton go high avoiding the 29 who was already spinning around. Breyton went all the way to the concrete wall never making any contact and came out on the otherside tires kicking up dust next to the wall. What they should have done (should is a crappy word), is given the driver the benefit of doubt as clearly Breyton was not stopped anywhere near the incident. They made the call on the 9 as part of the caution before anything had concluded or finished. This resulted in Breyton being sent to the back or being DQ. Should have taken the DQ, because it made no difference after being sent to the back. Our shot to win or have a strong finish was pretty much ended with their mistake. We finished 11th. Congrats to Billy Henry Racing Henry on his 2nd title this season well deserved.
We would not have had an issue if we had spun or stopped and then sent to the back. We understand the rules, but we do not understand how the rules continue to change based on who you are, or it appeared that way? There is a constant factor in this everytime. The comment was "It is just part of racing"
They again stripped us of an opportunity to win the RUSH money, the race, or a solid top run, and also a chance to improve our national weekly standings based on your 12 best finishes. These things all add up to keep our team racing. This is not the 1st time issues have occured with the flagging.
A rule was instilled a few years ago due to controversy at the end of a race with our tire slowly going down, as they continued to pace us around multiple laps, having our competitor whom we were battling for the title with check our tire and give 👍 or 👎 if it was OK to run to the official. Had we started the race as they should have we would have been fine as we had run over 1/2 the event running soft. The lineup was set and we paced around for almost 8 more laps. Then told us to get off Hmm? New rule. No running with a close to flat tire on all but left front. Yet the very next year a driver leading the race with good ties to the stand had the same issue and was allowed to finish the race even after a couple caution had came out and his right rear was clearly going flat. Do we feel there is favoritism, and biased decisions being made? ABSOLUTLEY! There are other instances also, but I think you get the picture.
Crap like this makes racing not fun. We work our butts off to be contending for wins and top 5 runs against some of the best and to have it stripped away like this is not acceptable! We love supporting Dave and Eriez. He does a great job trying to make the track racey even facing the weather and has done a great job. That being said, something has to change with the situation. This can not continue to happen to us and other teams.
We will have to take a very serious look at what we will be doing in the future as far as where we race and when. Raceway 7 and Eriez Speedway, we consider both our home tracks. Yes we had a great run in the super, and had a great run planned in the crates only to be stripped away by "Maybe we made a mistake?"
The last couple big races we have attended, our team has taken some hard hits, not from drivers or the wall, or flying debris. Factors that we can't control, nor would have happened if the correct procedures would have been followed and acknowledged.
