Hey guys, today, I would like to share some thoughts on “Rebranding” your way of eating. I tried to stay away from using the word diet, because often times it brings up visions of what the latest fads are, or starving yourself in desperation to try to lose weight. So let me share some thoughts with you in my 20+ years of being a certified fitness trainer. When I was young, I believed even as a trainer, that I could just work my way through and eat that I wanted to. Within the last 10 years or more, as my understanding of metabolism, and eating certain foods has changed, I now know as the old saying says, you can’t work your way out of a bad diet. My suggestion almost always is to lower your carbohydrate intake. This is something that everyone should at the very least investigate. Believe it or not, there are more benefits to lowering your sugar and carbohydrate intake than simply weight loss. understand this, even if you do not lose weight from taking in less carbohydrates, there are still many benefits in the long run to eating this way. One, is the hormone insulin. As many diabetics, understand, especially type two diabetics, insulin resistance, becomes a major problem as your body tries to regulate blood sugar levels. there is so much to this, to try to put into a reasonably short post, but I will try to keep it simple. Simply put, by lowering the amount of carbohydrates and sugars you eat, the less your blood sugars rise, and the less insulin is needed to be released into the bloodstream to get rid of those blood sugars. So again, even if low-carb doesn’t necessarily work for you as a great weight loss tool (though it usually does for most people that I have encountered to some degree) it still has health benefits. Lastly, remember this: low-carb, does not have to mean no carb. The average western diet usually consists of 350 g to 400 g of carbohydrates per day. That is a ton! Even if you lower your carbohydrate intake by 100 or 150 g, you will be doing yourself a favor! To give you an idea, I have recently been a bit lax in my carbohydrate intake. So for the past two days, I went extremely low carb intake, and have lost 1 pound per day. For more information, do yourself a favor and search the health benefits of low-carb eating. Best of luck!
