*** ATTENTION RRR MASTERS RUNNERS***
(That's all of us over 40 aged to perfection runners)
*****THE MASTERS CHALLENGE IS BACK!!!!!!*****
AND IT'S ON HALLOWEEN!!!!!
(which means aged to perfection runners in costume)
After a two-year hiatus, the Masters Challenge 5K has returned live and in person. The race is set for Sunday, October 31 (yes, Halloween!), starting at 9 a.m., at Rockland Lake North, parking lot #1. This race pits masters runners (40 and older) from RRR against those from our sister running clubs across the Hudson -- Westchester TC, Taconic Road Runners, and Rivertown Runners. This inter-club tradition dates back many years and has rotated sites, with RRR hosting at Rockland Lake, Westchester hosting at Rockefeller Park, and Taconic hosting at FDR Park.
There is no entry fee, no medals, no T-shirts, no frills -- but everybody always has a good time. Since we are holding the race on Halloween, participants are encouraged to come in costume -- ghouls, goblins, jack-o'-lanterns, Met fans -- whatever suits your fancy.
Runners are scored in 10-year age categories -- 40-49, 50-59, 60-and-older. If we get enough runners of 70-and-older we will have a separate category for the septuagenarians. There is no pre-entry -- it's day-of-race registration only, with signup starting at 7:45 a.m.
RRR future masters runners are also encouraged to come out, dress up in the Halloween spirit, cheer on your senior club members and (if so inclined) volunteer to assist where needed.
