The Man Behind One of Anime’s Greatest Studios

Hideaki Hatta, the president and heart behind Kyoto Animation, has passed away at the age of 76.

From the moment he founded Kyoto Animation in 1985, Hatta believed animation could be more than entertainment—it could be deeply human. Through patience, care, and an unwavering respect for artists and storytellers, he helped shape a studio known not just for breathtaking visuals, but for stories filled with warmth, empathy, and emotional truth.

Under his leadership, Kyoto Animation gave the world unforgettable works like A Silent Voice, K-On!, Clannad, Violet Evergarden and many more.

anime that made audiences laugh, cry, heal, and feel seen. These weren’t just shows; they were experiences that stayed with people long after the final episode ended, defining eras of anime fandom and touching lives across generations.
