A Powerful Evening of Baseball, History, and Conversation
As part of our 30th Anniversary Celebration, Dayton Classics was honored to host a screening of The League this past Friday at Sinclair Community College.
The documentary tells the story of the Negro Leagues and the players whose talent, perseverance, and impact on the game helped pave the way for greater diversity and integration in baseball. It served as a powerful reminder that the history of our game extends far beyond the lines on the field.
Following the screening, attendees heard from an outstanding panel that shared perspectives on leadership, opportunity, overcoming barriers, and the importance of continuing to create environments where all young athletes can thrive.
Panelists included:
⚾ Blake Beemer – Head Coach, Butler University & Dayton Classics Alum
⚾ Mark Fowler – Wright State University & Dayton Classics Coach
⚾ Trey Clements – Vandalia Butler Baseball Player
⚾ Josh Copeland – Fairborn Graduate, University at Buffalo Football & Motivational Speaker
The evening generated meaningful conversations about the role sports can play in bringing people together, creating opportunities, and helping young people understand the history that shaped the game they love today.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event a success. As we celebrate 30 years of Dayton Classics, we remain committed to developing not only better players, but better people through education, mentorship, and experiences that extend beyond baseball.
