I was happy with the progress these guys showed tonight. It’s difficult to post a lot but we’ve been putting time into getting better all winter and it shows.

Only the old timers tonight, but what fireworks! These guys are doing stuff better and better all the time. I’m so proud of them. Tonight we were in the tripod position trying to sit out and run to the leg. If you want your kid to be as tough as possible you should look into this. Also, you kind of have to push them to do it sometimes. No kid wants to stop playing video games to do this, but there will be time for that after!

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve given out any belts. One year and 8 months to be exact. These are very special ones for me. Price has been here for 6 years, Bobby for 8. Andy has been here about a year but came with some prior experience. If they were here for belts they’d have been gone long ago. We haven’t even given stripes in the last 5 years I’d say (kind of lost track). All that said, these guys are too good to deny. They fit the vision I have of the gym and the skills that should be produced. Like me, these guys are skilled in ALL facets of the fight game so if you want to dispute their rank, just know they’re not going to offer you a roll, they’ll offer you a FIGHT. Know the difference. Peace until next time. Congratulations Gents!

I’m proud of these little guys. I gave them a little bit of a technically difficult move just to see how they’d do. I was pleased with the result. Every now and then it helps to do that. If you want your child to be the toughest they can be this kind of training is where it’s at.

We have some things to work on but hey, these kids are trying. We’re just using the stance and motion drill exactly the way I learned it from The technique is one thing, but returning to a stance afterward may be as or more important. If you want your child to be as tough as possible I highly recommend this activity.

Each time we take a look these kids are getting better and better. It has been a lot of work but now I feel like we’re getting somewhere. They’re not exactly drilling the move like I instructed but hey, there is still some quality movement in here and they’re also trying new things. I’m really proud of them. Just get your kid in here and they’ll be much better off, trust me on that.

Another Saturday going deeper into BJJ. Training in the gi is essential. Here we are working on attacking with submissions from our guard.

We also got some mitt work in yesterday. Charlie likes the MMA gloves for some reason. Regardless we use the Sam’s Gym system here. We come in behind a jab then run numbers on the inside. Once you can box like this, then it’s easy to add in the kicks. Too many people try to do everything at once. I didn’t make this up, I just learned it from Coach Sam.

Had the opportunity to train with Relson Gracie last night. It’s always amazing to train with a member of the Gracie family. It had been a long time since I saw him as well as a lot of old friends at the Gracie Academy. I started my Gracie Jiu Jitsu training at the Relson Gracie Academy in 2007. Thank you Relson and thanks to the folks at Relson Gracie Academy for having us in!

I’m silent for long periods of time but we are still doing things. We had a great week with the kids. We see them learn the skills as well as learn to love the activity. Loving the activity can outweigh inclination sometimes.

Man I’m proud of this guy He got out there and competed at the Arnold Classic this weekend. He did a lot to hone his competition skills. As tough as people can be in the gym, doing it for real is always different. This guy has now won a medal (not a participation one either) in the brown/black division and I’m certain there will be more to come.
