It is that time of year again. In my time as a Pro Scout, I evaluated many players from D-2 colleges that went on to great careers in the NFL. I have a passion for those players who have the potential to play college football but who will be overlooked for one reason or another. I do know that my College Football Scouting Report has the means of making those players known to many colleges. Here is a list of the types of players that colud greatly benefit from the report:
1. Those who have the passion to play at the next level
2. Those who have demonstrated the skills and ability to play college football
3. Those who have strong personal character
4. Those from small high schools or are from schools that are off the beaten path of recruiters
5. Those who meet the necessary academic requirements
6. Those who have the academic requirements to be accepted at Ivy or Patriot League colleges

It is important to understand that with our current pandemic situation that football recruiting has not ceased but has become more difficult for colleges to identify potential prospects most especially from small high schools and those that are off the beaten path of recruiters. At best, the recruiters have only a limited amount of days in which to visit schools and so concentrate on areas where they can visit as many schools as possible in a given day. This creates a dilemma for those players not located in those areas. Marginal D-1 players or those best suited for other than Power 5 schools, D-1AA or D-2 schools may well be overlooked. It has always been my passion for the underdog, the player who may not be tall or fast enough for the Big Schools but who have the skills, academic requirements and most importantly the passion to play at some level of college football. Andre Reed who played at Kutztown State and now a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame; Mark Murphy out of West Liberty State and a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame are only two of the players that I had a direct involvement in their pro careers and there were many others. They were not considered good enough to be considered as D-1 prospects but they were “football PLAYERS”. Those are the kind of players that I am passionate about and whom “The College Football Scouting Report” are designed for. Most recently, I have done reports for a QB from the Miami, Fl area; a WR from Houston, TX and a QB from Louisville, KY. They are skilled and talented players who will play at the college level although relatively unknown to most colleges. A week ago I asked the question what is the difference between a pure athlete and a football player. I will present some of the characteristics of a player as described in two of my old pro scouting manuals. Again I and the many who read these posts would appreciate your comments.
Today's topic: Toughness
* Degree of mental and physical toughness to play with reckless abandon and withstand the demands of a long, tough season without a let down.
* Willingness to give and accept in physical/mental confrontation

I have a question and am looking forward to your responses.
During my scouting days I had many occasions to visit most of the colleges in the country. One day I was at a prominent SEC school with a number of players to evaluate. One player was a highly touted OLB who possessed all the necessary measurable numbers and was rated by every other scout as a round one prospect. He was indeed a great athlete but I did not like him as a football player and gave him a free agent grade. He was drafted in round one and I was raked over coals for giving him a very low grade. I was told "You think you are right and everyone else is wrong".Well, yes I did. A year later I got a phone call, "You were right and the world was wrong, we cut ______ _____ this morning".
Now, here is my question to you, What is it, what are the characteristics that make a lesser athlete the better football player? I have my opinion and would like yours.
