The Motocross des Nations is an annual team motocross race, where riders representing their country meet at what is billed as the "Olympics of Motocross". The event has been staged since 1947, where the team of Bill Nicholson, Fred Rist and Bob Ray, representing Great Britain, took home the Chamberlain Trophy for the first time. The event as it stands today is an amalgamation of three separate events, the original Motocross des Nations, raced with 500cc motorcycles, the Trophée des Nations, raced with 250cc motorcycles, and the Coupe des Nations, for 125cc motorcycles. Before 1984, the three events were held in different locations on different weekends, whereafter they were combined into a single event with one rider per class. The scoring for the event works on the position system, i.e. first place is awarded one point, second place two, etc. Each class (currently MXGP, MX2 and Open) races twice, each time against one of other two classes, for a total of three races. The worst score of three races is dropped, and the lowest combined score wins. The event's name has been officially anglicised (as Motocross of Nations "MXON") since 2004, when Youthstream was awarded promotional rights for the World Motocross Grand Prix, although the general moniker Des Nations or MXDN is still very much in use. Historically Great Britain dominated the early years, before the competition became more fierce. With the rise of motocross in North America from the 1970s, the USA embarked on a famous winning streak, lasting 13 years from 1981 to 1993

The Team Canada MXON Auction goes LIVE tomorrow, September 8 AT 12pm EST

We’ve opened up the archives and pulled together a collection you won’t see every day.

Race-worn jerseys, complete gear sets, bike plastics and memorabilia from past and present racers will all be up for grabs — including pieces from Dylan Wright, Tanner Ward, Cooper Webb, Phil Nicoletti, Kaven Benoit and many more.

Some of these items have been part of Team Canada, SX, MX and MXON history, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

The auction opens tomorrow, Sept 8th at 12pm EST. All proceeds go directly toward supporting the Team Canada MXON program.

Team Canada Management are proud to announce that Tanner Ward has been called upon to represent Team Canada in the premier MXGP class at the 2026 Motocross des Nations (MXON) in Ernée, France.
Ward steps into the lineup on short notice, bringing a proven track record of incredible strength, grit, and adaptability. Having previously represented Canada at MXON, Ward returns to the world stage with valuable international experience. Armed with that prior experience, he enters this year’s event with absolute confidence and a strong vision to perform at the highest level against the world’s best riders.
In a critical strategic move leading up to the main event, Ward will line up to race in England the weekend prior to MXON. This intensive European race appearance is a vital component of his preparation, giving him crucial seat time and allowing him to rigorously test setup configurations in authentic, high-stakes race conditions directly on European soil before heading to France.
“Team Canada Management are extremely proud to have Tanner on the roster,” said Team Canada Manager, Kourtney Lloyd. “Answering the call on such short notice demonstrates his elite mindset and unwavering commitment to representing our country. Securing competitive race time in England the weekend prior gives him a major operational advantage—ensuring he is razor-sharp and fully dialled in before gate drop in Ernée.”
This last-minute effort was made possible through extraordinary industry collaboration. Team Canada extends its sincere gratitude to Priority MX, Team Owners Peter & Wendy Knoop, and Team Manager Justin Roney for their immediate flexibility and support in putting this effort together under tight time constraints.
