Want to do college gymnastics? (Or really any sport at a super high level?!)

You don’t need to live in the gym…but you DO need to train with intention.

Work ethic matters! but so does how you recover, how you think, and how you care for your body.

Because the goal isn’t just to make it to college gymnastics… it’s to stay healthy enough perform and to love it while you’re there.

Gymnast back pain is one of the hardest injuries to fix…
but not for the reasons most people think.

When I was a gymnast, I dealt with back pain for years into my 30s when I was competing in CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting. I honestly thought I was doing everything I could. I even went to PT multiple times.

Even when I first became a PT, I had athletes who improved… but still had back pain come back more often than I wanted. And that frustrated me. A lot!

Then I started learning a different way to approach back pain.
Not “more stretching.”
Not “just get your core stronger.”

A way that actually changes:
• how the core works
• how the spine loads
• how skills are performed
• and why the same muscles keep tightening over and over again

When I applied this approach to myself?
My back pain improved more than it had in 20+ years.

And now when athletes truly follow the plan… I rarely see continued back issues or recurring pain.
Because we’re finally addressing the actual problem.

Back pain doesn’t have to be your gymnast’s normal.
It doesn’t have to be the thing they push through all season.
It doesn’t have to be something they “just have.”

If you want this to feel better … it absolutely can.
But you have to fix the pattern, not just the pain.

Being stronger makes everything easier… & lifting weights is the best way to do that!!!

Here are some reasons everyone (especially females 😉) should lift:

• Improved Power: Weightlifting exercises like squats and power cleans, enhance explosive power.

• Injury Prevention: Strengthening the muscles and joints through weightlifting can reduce the risk of injuries…as long as the lifting is done properly! 😊

• Enhanced Core Stability: A stable core is vital in sports. Weightlifting movements increase core stability more efficiently than traditional ab exercises.

•Mental Toughness: Weightlifting requires discipline and mental focus, just like gymnastics. Incorporating weightlifting into training can enhance a gymnast’s mental resilience, helping them handle the pressures of competition with confidence.

• Increased Flexibility: Weightlifting can complement sports, like gymnastics, by promoting flexibility (contrary to popular belief 🙄). Properly designed weightlifting programs can maintain or even improve a gymnast’s range of motion.

• Improved Confidence: The sense of achievement, improved self-image, and increased resilience gained through weightlifting can lead to greater self-confidence that can help in the gym as well as other various aspects of life.

• Increased Strength: duh! Like I said earlier - being strong makes everything easier! The stronger you are the better you will handle or all of the forces sport puts on your body!

Yes, we’ll teach girls how to squat, clean, deadlift, and get stronger.

But we’re also teaching them how to:
✔️ Encourage others
✔️ Handle challenges
✔️ Respect their bodies
✔️ Speak up when something hurts
✔️ Build confidence
✔️ Develop resilience
✔️ Believe in themselves

These are the values that shape the culture inside Teen Lift & Built by Borda programs.

Strength is about learning to trust yourself, work hard, support others, and show up even when things feel difficult.

Our goal is for every girl to leave stronger than she came in…not just physically, but mentally too.

Girls aren’t born as sweet little babies hating their bodies.

A 3-year-old doesn’t look in the mirror and decide she’s fat.
Those beliefs are learned … through comments, comparisons, social media, sports culture, and mostly the way the world talks about women’s bodies.

And that’s why these statistics matter.

Girls deserve to grow up appreciating what their bodies can DO … not spending years trying to shrink themselves.

Imagine if girls grew up believing:
✨ strength training was normal
✨ muscles were healthy
✨ exercise was about feeling strong, not looking smaller
✨ their worth had nothing to do with a number on a scale

That’s why spaces like Teen & Tween Lift matter so much to me.

We’re not just helping girls get stronger physically … we’re helping them build confidence and a healthier relationship with their bodies for life.
