We were preparing to work our axis deer, separate bucks from does, get ready to sell excess does - and look what we found!

Lots of history in Columbus!

I’m not blessed with spotting these in our sandy and gravely soil - but Charlie is. He can see them way off. I’d have to stick one in my foot - pull it out - and I might recognize it was an arrowhead!!!

We’ve found steel rails from the old rail road that went thru the ranch, tons of rail road spikes and train hardware.

We’ve been told by several locals that Sam Houston and the Texas Army camped on our place back in the day. Would love to find some artifacts that prove that one day.

Here is another Indian artifact Morgan (grand daughter 2 found on the shore of Lake Gloria on the ranch. I was told it was a knife - kind of looks like a spear point to me. Really cool colors!

Nature is amazing. In the last few years we completely drained one of our 5 acre ponds/lakes. We cleaned all the sludge out of the bottom - stocked with bait fish - let them reproduce for a year and then added fresh water adapted redfish that were about 6”. No bass were added that we know of.

Well some folks were fishing last week and look what was caught! We are guessing about a 4 to 5 pounder - large mouth bass.

I need to make some time to stop working at the ranch all the time and do a little fishing.

At least we know they are in there!!!

Today was a long day. Started working our fallow deer early and finished about halfway this eve. Here is a young spotted fallow buck - they come in white, spotted, and chocolate. Spotted and are my fav!

Hope to finish up tomorrow - and will have a few fallow doe and young bucks for sale in the coming weeks.

This guy woke up, probably has a slight head ache - and wondering - where am I and where are all my sisters and girl friends. He is now hanging out with a bunch of his buds.

Had a fun laid back weekend with a friend since the first grade and another more recent friend. After harvesting some axis does - we just hung out, cooked some awesome ribeyes from Midway Meat Market in Katy, had some really good fried catfish at a neat little place in Lone Oak Texas called Pevo’s. We rode around the property enjoying the beautiful weather and wildlife that has God provided.

We got a little silly and took a picture with a pair of sheds we found from a pretty nice buck.

We had a hunter experience a near Africa style hunt this past weekend. Our Oryx herd is super skittish! They were hanging in the brush and coming to feed only during dark hours. Sitting in a blind for hours just wasn’t getting it done. Our guide Charlie spotted a lone Scimitar hanging in an area where we could get close enough by stalking thru thick brush to a vantage point and by using shooting sticks - get a decent shot. The scimitar sensed our presence and was preparing to bolt! They set up the sticks quickly, the hunter was ready. A loud whistle stopped the retreating animal just long enough for the hunter to make a great shot!

Everyone was so excited to get er done!

Congrats to our hunter and thanks to our customer and Charlie!

These Scimitar are great eating as well as a beautiful animal and make a remarkable mount as a reminder of this exciting hunt.

Well look at this! We stocked a 5 acre pond with 300 redfish a few years ago, along with bait fish. We’ve been monitoring TDS (not Trump Derangement Syndrome 😂) - total dissolved solids - ie salt content - adding some salt when needed. Haven’t been fishing except to check on health and size.

They are up to 25”. Not too bad for a salt water fish in fresh water.

Exciting hunt today! Talk about pressure - we had one afternoon to get this hunter a trophy animal. When checking the gun accuracy we had to resight the rifle for different bullets that were designed for thicker skin animals. With that done, we climbed in a hunting blind, but the herd decided to bolt from the area. We tried Safari style (using vehicle to get close enough), but the herd was not gonna allow that. We had to break out shooting sticks and spot and stalk to get within 200 yards. Hunter made a 190 yd great shot and mission accomplished - with enough daylight to get pictures and honor this beautiful animal. We are thankful for a safe hunt, great shot, and teamwork of hunter, guides and our customer. Everyone chipped in to make this happen.
