We’ve got another project we are wrapping up pretty soon.
Recently we found a few of our redfish (close to 24” inchers) floating dead on the pond.
We jumped into action and thanks to Andy and Zac Labay at Southwest Aquatics we had two electric surface aerators running in a couple hours. That was crucial to get them installed before dark. Nighttime is when oxygen levels go down and fish drown.
For a long term solution we needed to re-install our bottom based bubbler aeration system. It’s based on three rocking piston compressors and 9 pond bottom supported aerators.
The system failed because the bubblers that were sitting on the bottom - sank into the muck and plugged up. That put increased back pressure on our compressors and burned them up.
Due to this happening we drained the pond, deepened it, de-mucked it - and retrieved our 9 aerator pods.
We sourced 3 new compressors - new manifold valves and assembled a manifold unit that will set on a pipe stand about 3’ above the ground. A fish biologist company installed the original manifold in the ground - it corroded into nothing. Not making that mistake again.
We have reconfigured our system. Below is a proto-type aerator stand. It holds the aerator several feet above the bottom. Is built of materials that will not corrode.
I’ll share a little more about the entire installation in the future.
We were able to stretch out the first run of weighted tubing about 400’ and set the aerator on bottom in 25’ of water. We started the compressors and had bubbles!
We used our 18’ flat bottom - it went well. The team gave thumbs up to the stands.
We’ve bought material for the 8 additional stands, are fabbing them now and will install them in the next week or so.
