Well today was a great day - but HOT. We have saved our fresh water redfish! We have 9 bottom aerators going! We completed our install of weighted tubing, manifold box and put blue dye in the lake to help reduce the sunlight pe*******on into the water column.

We’ve got another project we are wrapping up pretty soon.

Recently we found a few of our redfish (close to 24” inchers) floating dead on the pond.

We jumped into action and thanks to Andy and Zac Labay at Southwest Aquatics we had two electric surface aerators running in a couple hours. That was crucial to get them installed before dark. Nighttime is when oxygen levels go down and fish drown.

For a long term solution we needed to re-install our bottom based bubbler aeration system. It’s based on three rocking piston compressors and 9 pond bottom supported aerators.

The system failed because the bubblers that were sitting on the bottom - sank into the muck and plugged up. That put increased back pressure on our compressors and burned them up.

Due to this happening we drained the pond, deepened it, de-mucked it - and retrieved our 9 aerator pods.

We sourced 3 new compressors - new manifold valves and assembled a manifold unit that will set on a pipe stand about 3’ above the ground. A fish biologist company installed the original manifold in the ground - it corroded into nothing. Not making that mistake again.

We have reconfigured our system. Below is a proto-type aerator stand. It holds the aerator several feet above the bottom. Is built of materials that will not corrode.

I’ll share a little more about the entire installation in the future.

We were able to stretch out the first run of weighted tubing about 400’ and set the aerator on bottom in 25’ of water. We started the compressors and had bubbles!

We used our 18’ flat bottom - it went well. The team gave thumbs up to the stands.

We’ve bought material for the 8 additional stands, are fabbing them now and will install them in the next week or so.

We finally got some time and installed additional floatation on one of our fishing piers. The patio section came from the manufacturer with 4 2X3 floats. It was almost un-usable. We had an extra 4X6 float that needed a little patching to repair leaks - it fit nicely We also added 6 of the perimeter gray stability floats. Wow - did all that make a difference!. It will now support our fish feeder and people also. Much more stable!

Pretty simple remodel - we pulled it out of the water onto the bank - installed new stuff and shoved it right back in. Glad to get another project off the list. While wading doing the project a large (5 pound) hybrid striper splashed close by - made me jump for sure! 🤣

I always seem to try and bite off more than I can chew - with help from a good friend we got this done - Thank the Lord. We are refurbing our cattle guard with some new pipes and reinstalling so it is absolutely level and will stay that way - and deep enough so animals won’t walk across it. We had a faux pa and dug our hole 8” too deep. That mistake caused extra work with forms and extra stabilized sand. Plus it was hot. We worked thru a down pour - with boots full of water - at least it cooled us off. Glad this is done except for setting beams and cattle guard - and that is all equipment work!

Today was a first for us. We set a trap for exotics recently. We put a feeder and alfalfa in the trap and waited. The animals got used to the trap over two to three weeks. Last night we had 12 scimitar oryx go in for a snack. The guys pushed the button on their phone and the trap doors closed. This morning they backed a trailer up to a panel that could be opened. Then they got into the trap with the oryx (which have really big horns I might add) while holding aluminum shields. I would have thought the animals would have gone crazy. But they remained pretty calm. With gradual pressure they worked the animals thru a funnel and into the trailer. 8 of the 12 are now taking a trip to a new ranch. Pretty cool to witness this process.
