The Columbus and Cincinnati/Dayton Chapters of the Amateur Players Tour traveled to beautiful Majestic Springs Golf Course in Wilmington, Ohio on May 31st for a one-day tournament featuring 58 players from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland.

Known as the "Best Kept Secret in Ohio," Majestic Springs is a challenging 18-hole links-style layout that opened in 1999. Rolling meadows, thick, rough, woodlands, a crystal-clear stream, nine ponds, 58 bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes provided a true test of golf on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Division 2
18 holes weren't enough to determine a champion in Division 2 as Blake Smith of Lancaster, OH and Michael Marinangeli of Grove City, OH both finished regulation at 2-over-par 73. Smith, who carded four birdies during regulation, added another in the playoff to secure the victory and bring the trophy and prize money back to Fairfield County. Matthew Harig of Uniontown, OH finished third with a 77.

Frank Machesky of Jackson, OH finished runner-up, while Benjamin Anderson of Fort Thomas, Kentucky finished just two shots behind the winner to round out the top three.

Division 4
Division 4 came down to the final hole. Current Columbus Division 4 Player of the Year points leader Van Rome of Canal Wi******er, OH entered the 18th hole with the lead, but a double bogey opened the door for Johnny Sherman of Ashville, OH. Sherman, currently second in the Columbus Division 4 Player of the Year standings, capitalized and earned the victory with a round of 83. Rome and Tim Shepard of Cincinnati, OH tied for second at 84.

Division 5
Tyler Philo of Beavercreek, OH continued his remarkable season, going wire-to-wire to earn his fifth victory of the year. The Cincinnati/Dayton Division 5 Player of the Year leader fired a career-low 80 to hold off Newark, OH Aaron Holman, the current Columbus Division 5 Player of the Year leader, who finished with an 88. Philip Evers of Milford, OH finished third at 93.

Mid-Am Net
Tyler Philo wasn't finished collecting hardware. He completed the double-dip by capturing the Mid-Am Net title, finishing two shots ahead of Johnny Sherman. Rob Braun of Alexandria, Kentucky finished third.

Senior Net
Michael Marinangeli added a trophy to his playoff appearance by winning the Senior Net division. He finished two shots ahead of Frank Machesky and Jack Cyrus.

Danny Bay and Kasey Dickenson would like to thank the entire staff at Majestic Springs Golf Course for their outstanding hospitality and for providing a beautiful golf course that was enjoyed by all competitors.

The Amateur Players Tour of Kentucky, Columbus, and Cincinnati/Dayton hosted an Elevated Event at nationally ranked NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio.

Playing at 7,018 yards from the back tees as a par 71, NCR’s South Course provided a true championship test with heavily wooded rolling terrain, demanding doglegs, strategically placed bunkers, and thick rough.

The South Course has a storied championship history, having hosted the 1969 PGA Championship, the 1986 U.S. Women’s Open, the 1998 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, the 2005 U.S. Senior Open Championship, the 2013 USGA Women’s State Team Championship, and the 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open. It will also host the 2027 PGA Junior Championships.

With afternoon winds picking up and temperatures climbing into the high 70s, the championship layout proved to be a major challenge for the 116-player field. Below are the results by division:

Division 1
A field of 14 players battled it out, and 18 holes were not enough to decide a winner. Josh Earnest, Andrew Buse, and Ben Palmer all fired even-par rounds of 71 to force a playoff. In the end, Ben Palmer made the trip from Parkersburg, West Virginia worthwhile, capturing the trophy and prize money, while Josh Earnest and Andrew Buse finished tied for second.

Division 2
With 33 players in the field, the final nine holes featured constant movement at the top of the leaderboard, with the lead changing hands five different times. Cathleen Wong carded a strong 3-over-par 74 to earn the victory. John Wayne Parrish, who made the trip from North Carolina, finished second at 5-over 76, while Black Smith was just one shot back in third with a 6-over 77.

Division 3
Jeremy Roush continued his steady, consistent play, posting an 8-over 79 to claim the win in a 32-player field. Adam Hill finished second with a 9-over 80, and Andy Patton rounded out the top three at 10-over 81.

Division 4
In a field of 21 players, Johnny Sherman picked up his 1st victory of the 2026 season as he held on to secure a one-shot victory with a 15-over 86. David Dietz and Joey Fyall II finished tied for second, each posting 16-over 87.

Division 5
Derek Stinefield carried momentum from Sunday’s event, where he finished second, and turned it into a victory on Monday. Derek earned a comfortable three-shot win with a 17-over 88. Quintin Jessee, playing in just his third start on Tour, finished second with a 91, while Kevin Forwith came in third, four shots behind the leader.

Mid-Am Net
With a field of 16, Derek Stinefield capped off a strong day by also taking home the Mid-Am Net trophy and prize money, finishing one shot ahead of James Pearce and Johnny Sherman.

Senior Net
A strong field of 40 players competed in the Senior Net division, and Adam Hill made the drive down Route 71 worth it, earning a one-shot victory over Braden Power, Kevin Forwith, and David Dietz.

A special thank you goes out to Rob Karnes and his staff at NCR Country Club for their outstanding hospitality and for having the course in tremendous condition for this Elevated Event.
