Here’s the thing they don’t tell you about fitness instructors: our body is the product.
So everyday stuff hits differently. Catch a cold? Twist an ankle? Get into a car accident?
Yeah… that one was today.
Your brain immediately goes into overdrive:
Okay, what hurts? Can I still teach? How bad is it? Do I need time off? Who subs last minute? I can’t cancel. I need class, too. If it hurts, maybe I sit in a chair. Just please don’t be anything serious. No car? It’s fine, it’s Sunday—wait, no it’s not, I have two classes. Do I Uber? S**t, Is my knee swelling? It’s fine. I’m fine. Low intensity if I have to.
Welcome to the inner monologue of a fitness instructor 💁♀️
So yeah. I was in a car accident today. Both cars are totaled.
Everyone is okay! Truly. Cars are replaceable. My body isn’t.
Class is definitely still on! And thank you to Mackenzie Green for making sure I can get there.
But that spiral—the panic of knowing that the reliability of your body literally is the job, the thing the whole business you've been building for years hinges on—that part is very, very real. Thank God everyone is okay and none of my worst fears were realized today.
So let’s bring it, Sunday. I need this one, too.
