It's been a bit of a downer 'round here lately, so I thought I might share something a bit more uplifting.

On July 23rd, 2023, at approximately 3:00 pm (depending on conditions), I will complete my 600th mile on Scotland's West Highland.

And as it feels like a milestone worth celebrating, I'm looking for a few more folks to mark the occasion with me.

But it's not just about me. By coming along, you'll get to experience 8 days of adventureas we hike and camp our way from the village of Milngavie just outside of Glasgow to Fort William, in the shadow of the UK's highest peak, Ben Nevis.

Along the way, you'll learn local history and mythology, eat some excellent grub, laugh, overcome obstacles, and experience the Highlands in all its glory.

Well, this sucks, but has to be done. After six months of promoting Hellblazer 2023, we've had a total of 12 entries. That's just not a tenable way to continue, and still put on a quality event.

As such, I'm closing down registration and cancelling the race.

It saddens me to do it, but it would be even worse to do something sub par for all of you that supported me.

I will reaching out to each entry purchaser to send refunds, minus any fees that RunSignUp or Eventbrite may have applied.

"Lately it occurs to me, what a long strange trip it's been"

Y'see, I recently found some of the promo material for the very first Hellblazer from waaaay back in 2017, and man.

We were hella aggro, weren't we? 😄

Luckily, all that "THERE WILL BE NO SURVIVORS" nonsense got tossed pretty early on. I don't know if it was the "truffle shuffle for your bib" challenge, Will Chamblee running his first leg with a half a watermelon, Andi Marie's midnight run in with The Virgin Mary, or Serhot Ozturk grinning like a madman as he was escorted from the course by the police (they were kind enough to give him a lift to the car), but by the time it was all over, I knew we had something really special on our hands.

When we were lucky enough to return in 2019, the weirdness got cranked up to 11. There were rumors of a bear, and word is some mad Irish woman was chasing down kids who were tearing down trail markers (Thanks, Aish!). But most importantly, there was a sighting of Beech Mountain's very own cryptid, THE DREAD PUMADEER!

So, yeah. Here we are, three years and one plague later, ready to give it another go.

Was just saying to a friend that, given what day it is, we should put together a nudist, circular course trail race and call it Loopercalia.

I meant it as a joke, but honestly, I bet I know some people who'd sign up. 😂

Happy Monday, everyone!

I was going through our roster of runners this weekend, and I noticed a strange thing. While we have some truly incredible women running as part of a relay team, there's only three signed up to run solo.

I mean sure, it means that right now, they're guaranteed at least a third place finish, but no one just wants to place by default, do they?

So yeah, spread the word, and alert your friends. The field (well trail, actually) is wide open!
