πββοΈ Build Confidence in Beginner Swimmers Through Success! πββοΈ
The fastest way to build confidence in nervous swimmers is through progressions that allow young learners to experience success early and often.
One of our favorite methods is helping children move independently around the pool by kicking with a noodle. In the Swim Lessons University Swim 101 course, we use a short jumbo noodle for kicking activities because it provides the balance and support beginners need while developing a proper flutter kick.
We also incorporate fun activities that make learning feel like play while maximizing practice time. After all, practice is the foundation of skill development. The more opportunities children have to practice a skill successfully, the faster their confidence, comfort, and ability will grow.
Instead of starting new swimmers with a kickboard, try beginning with a noodle. The added stability allows children to focus on learning the kicking motion without worrying about balance. As their kick becomes stronger and more efficient, they can progress to a kickboard, which requires greater control and independence.
