We manufacture and market boat alarms built for boats. To make the alarms suitable for use in a boat they are waterproof and use marine grade wire. Canvas snap sensors cause the siren to sound when the canvas is unsnapped. A cable wrap sensor can be used to tether the boat to a dock, trailer or pickup. The siren will sound when the cable is cut or disconnected.

My boat has a canvas cover. While traveling to and from remote fishing locations the boat would be parked overnight in a motel parking lot. I would get up several times during the night to check whether my fishing gear and electronics were still intact. For an answer to this problem we developed the canvas snap sensor. The canvas snap sensor causes the alarm to trigger the siren when the canvas is opened at a protected snap. The canvas snap sensor is make of brass to survive the marine environment.

I never worried about the security of my boat or its contents until the trolling motor was stolen from the boat while parked in my yard. Then I began looking for a boat alarm system that was suitable for marine service. All I could find were car and house alarms that were being used for boat alarms. Problem was, I had to protect the alarm sensors and the alarm itself protected from the marine environment. Not too successful, because I would travel to northern Canada and fish for salmon in the ocean. Being an engineer by training I decided I could build an alarm system that was truly marine grade, thus our Columbia Boat Alarms Model 411 boat alarm.

Started because someone stole my trolling motor off my boat while parked in my driveway. Literally broke it off the boat. It was bolted to the boat. So I started trying to find a way to prevent it the next time.
