This will be a long one.

I didn’t plan to be sitting here, by myself, on this 2023 Christmas Eve morning.

I didn’t ask for this.

Didn’t expect it.

But here I am.

So now, as with every morning, I have a choice to make. Wallow in self-pity? Succumb? Let sorrow and grief come in the front door? God knows they both come knocking every single day.

Should I feel sorry for myself? Depressed? Should I throw a tantrum? Kick and scream? Should I cry?

Should I let yesterday’s PAIN steal today’s JOY?

Should I let yesterday’s PAIN, steal tomorrow’s HOPE?

OR should I rejoice in the memory of the 39 years, 113 days and 14 1/2 hours that I lived in a fairytale with an Angel? And be thankful for that blessing?

Should I look outside and see the beauty of this glorious world? The sunshine?

Should I recall the lesson I learned, the lesson my Angel taught me? That every day is precious?

Should I make the choice to live?

Everyone, I thank you for your heartfelt condolences, and for sharing your thoughts with me, warnings to be strong for this first Christmas season without my soulmate.

How it will be hard for me.

Sad for me.

But honestly, every morning, I wake up and make this same choice.

I choose to live.

I choose to look forward, to forge ahead, to embrace this new reality that I did not ask for. Did not plan for.

No. I am not sad as I sit here by myself on Christmas Eve morning! I am full of joy at being alive!

Full of joy as I remember the decades of deep, true love I shared with an Angel. My soulmate.

Full of wonder as I look forward into an unknown future!

Full of questions that only by LIVING will I find the answers to.
