Our Story

According to the Report to the Parks Commission, "General Palmer's plan for a park system was bold, far-sighted and comprehensive. He sought to surround the city with near-by parks, mountain driveways, woodland paths, and trails; to furnish places for healthful outdoor exercise and quiet restful enjoyment." The City continues to build on this legacy through a diverse network of parks, r

ecreation, trails and cultural amenities - a direct result of decades of work, leadership and investment by the community. Today, the department maintains

•145 Neighborhood Parks
•7 Regional Parks
•146 Miles of Urban Trail
•14,000 acres of Open Space
•5 Community Centers
•2 Golf Course
•2 Cemeteries
•3 Sports Complexes
•87 Pieces of Public Art
•Plus 1 Museum, 1 Auditorium and 1 14,115' Mountain

With a heritage of community and economic development at the forefront, this department commits to providing a high quality of life for residents and a world class destination for visitors. Welcome and come enjoy our park properties, recreational opportunities and cultural resources that provides our City with it's character and distinctiveness. Social Media Disclaimer

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen when plans change. 💙

Maintenance issues have temporarily closed the Deerfield Hills Spray Ground, however the team at Deerfield Hills Community Center saw an opportunity instead of an obstacle. They transformed disappointment into joy by hosting a community water fight, giving neighborhood kids a chance to cool off, laugh, and play!

This is the heart of what our community centers do every day. They are safe places to gather, connect, learn, play, and belong. They strengthen neighborhoods, support families, and create opportunities for meaningful experiences that bring people together.

At PRCS, we believe recreation is essential because people are essential. Recreation improves physical and mental well-being, builds connections, and helps create stronger, more resilient communities. Learn more here: ColoradoSprings.Gov/CommunityCenters

Thank you to the Deerfield team for their creativity, flexibility, and commitment to serving their neighborhood. 💦☀️

The song said it, but we’re saying it too. 😅

Roads and trails in North Cheyenne Cañon Park sustained significant damage during the June 6th storm. Gold Camp and North Cheyenne Canyon roads will remain closed while crews make repairs.

🚫 Gold Camp Road: Closed to vehicles, hikers, bikers, and horses
🚫 North Cheyenne Canyon Road: Closed to vehicles, hikers, bikers, and horses

Please respect all closures and avoid the area. Giving crews the space they need to work safely will help us restore access as quickly as possible.

We’ll continue to share updates as information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. 🚧
