Dave Burgess is a USA Triathlon Level 2 coach and has been involved in the triathlon and endurance sports community since 2000. As a competitive swimmer growing up, he competed at the club, high school, and collegiate level. He then became a triathlete and has numerous age-group wins, top ten finishes, and an overall race win to his credit. Dave also holds USA Triathlon Level 2, USA Swimming, ASCA, and US Masters Swimming Level 3 coaching licenses. "I won my age group at the Xterra World Championships with a winning margin of 15 minutes. I owe much of that success to Dave’s help." - Sharon L. Dave works with athletes of all levels - first-time to elite - competing in distances from sprint triathlons to full Ironman distance events. No matter what level of athlete he works with, Dave provides the same quality training and attention to detail. His goal is to ensure that performance limiters are identified and remediated, and existing strengths are developed and enhanced. In addition to individual coaching, Dave runs workshops and clinics, as well as multi-day triathlon camps, and group training sessions. He also provides individual and group coaching for swimmers through his Colorado Springs based US Masters swim club. Dave is a regular webinar presenter and Performance Coaching Newsletter contributor for USA Triathlon. He is also an education presenter and coach instructor for US Masters Swimming. Dave is also a Mentor Coach for the USA Triathlon Coach Mentor Program.

Yesterday at Speedo Sectionals in Roseville CA - a blazing fast 500 freestyle clocked in with a 4:05:76. 3rd fastest performance in the history of the event. By a 16 year old. These splits are crazy fast.

I saw this visual and it really resonated with me. Key takeaway? There’s no substitute for good, solid, nutrition. I’m not saying supplements don’t have their place or aren’t important. But before you start adding another supplement to your stack, first determine if you can obtain the nutrients you’re looking for via a whole food source.

I talk to a lot of athletes about nutrition - and it's quite common for athletes to be taking supplements. Prescribed, or through their own research. I take a few myself! However, there's a lot of hype out there around supplementation and athletic performance.

When in doubt, talk to a professional. Find a Registered Dietician, or speak to your physician. Not all supplements are necessary, or helpful for that matter.

It's been a great year for our athletes. So many great results and breakout performances. Looking forward to what 2026 brings!
