Yeah, it's lonely at the top, but when you come in third, you've got plenty of company. After all, who can party alone? Next up, is the IBJJF Gi Europeans. Let's see if I can add to my collection of bronze medals! Let's keep the .bjj.cologne team in third place! 😎

Just realized I forgot to make a post about the results of NAGA Europeans this year. Took on 4 Divisions and came back with 3 medals. Really proud of my performance here and even came pretty close to getting a gold for the adult Nogi division this time.

But I'm definitely not doing 4 Divisions any more. I was so gassed out at the end that I just couldn't go on.

Now for a little rest and vacation and then it's off to my IBJJF Gi Europeans Training Camp.

***Probably going to p**s people off with this one, but I don't care***

It's been a busy year so far. Took on a lot of hard challenges. Sometimes with success, sometimes not. But definitely more than beat the odds on more than one occasion.

This would normally be the point where the obligatory "I couldn't have done any of this without blah, blah, blah" would come in, but it's not. While I do have my training partners who gave my back and I'm thankful for every day, and even messages like in this picture, the majority of everything has by and large been an uphill battle, with most people telling me it's not worth the time and that I shouldn't bother. If it were random people on the internet, it wouldn't be a bother, but overwhelmingly, it's coaches and people who act like they're your friends. This year alone, I've been told by black belts that because of my age, it's not worth working on the holes in my game (like my stand-up), I've been prohibited from competing in some divisions because they were afraid I would win and they didn't want someone my age to do so, every victory has been seen as a fluke while every loss is a confirmation that they were right and every achievement has been devalued. At the same time, these same people have been asking me for money, insist I need to come to their seminars just to get ignored and a host of other things they want me to help them with.

So, I just wanted to make a post to make my stance here clear. The people who have been on my side through all of this, you guys rock and I'm going to everything I can to help you out, no questions asked. But the ones who think I'm not worth your effort, you're not worth my time or money. I'm not going to your seminar, I'm not going to give you money and I'm not interested in helping you out. Oh, and don't talk to me about giving you second chances, either. You've all already been given a second chance. For that matter, you've likely gotten the third and fourth ones as well, while I'm still waiting on the first one. To sum up, in the words of our lord and savior Craig Jones, "You can get fu**ed."

And another European Championship is done. Made it to the podium this time as well. All in all, third place isn't that bad. Nogi was always my weak point and I really have the feeling now that I'm closing the gap between my gi and nogi game. I was also fighting at a disadvantage as well by going to the masters 2 division even though from my age I would actually be masters 4.

The interesting thing is, since I've started competing in the younger divisions, even the adult division in Germany, I haven't really felt that my losses have been due to a physical disadvantage, but rather a hole in my game that my opponents could exploit, which I can then improve on.

And my next major focus is going to be my stand up game. I've been putting that off for too long and it's time I quit running from that problem. Going to suck getting my ass kicked by people just starting out and feeling like a day one white belt, but the only way to solve a problem is to address it.

A few action shots from the Superfight last weekend. Having had a look at the video, I'm overall happy with my performance, despite my loss. Have a few takeaways from the match so I can fill the holes in my game and come back better than before.

Again, thanks to
for the great match.

First Superfight is in the books. Results didn't go as well as I would have liked, and I lost be 2 points to a really tough opponent. But we put on an absolute banger of a match and had everyone on the edge of their seats until the very end. Been told by several people who were watching that we definitely won fight of the night!

Still grateful to for the opportunity to take part.in this first event and to for accepting the match against a mere purple belt.
