This is a truly historic milestone for the Walter Johnson Rowing program. Every athlete who has competed this weekend has made history as part of the first-ever Walter Johnson crews to race outside of the United States.

No matter what happens on the water today, these rowers have already secured their place in our program’s legacy!

There was something special about being on the water today at

Racing on the historic Canadian Henley Course—and with five boats advancing to tomorrow’s semifinals—there’s a lot of energy and excitement across the entire team.

Between races, Coaches Chris Graves and Emma Fisher caught up with CHCH-TV News to share what this moment means:

“Rowing where the legends row — this is the Canadian Henley Course and rowing here is an honor, and having the boys being able to experience that water and hopefully have that be in their future,” said Coach Emma. (1:50)

“I’ve heard so much about St. Catharines and this race course, and when we got here, it was more than I had expected—and better,” said Coach Chris. (1:23)

Proud of how this group showed up today—and ready to carry that momentum into tomorrow.

Yesterday was our final Saturday practice of the spring 2026 season. One of our crew dads went along for the ride with Coach Chris and caught beautiful shots of some of our rowers on the water.

Back-to-back record-breaking weekends for Walter Johnson Crew 🔥

Our Boys Junior 8+ is on an incredible run—and making history for the program, stroke by stroke.

At the Stotesbury Cup Regatta (May 15–16, Philadelphia), they won their semifinal to become the first 8 in WJ history to reach the Grand Finals—and missed the podium by just tenths of a second.

They didn’t slow down at the SRAA Scholastic National Championship Regatta (May 22–23, Oak Ridge). With a first-place heat, third in the semifinal, and another Grand Finals appearance, they made history again as the first WJ 8 to reach Nationals Grand Finals.

Now? They’re ranked 6th in the nation and the fastest Boys Junior 8+ in the DMV—competing against the toughest crews in the country.

This is what dedication, hard work, and teamwork looks like.

Huge shoutout to Head Coach Emma Fisher, a WJ alum who’s rowed and coached gold, and Assistant Coach Rebecca Paul, former DI rower at Marist, for leading this crew to new heights.
