A favorite old video of how NOT to do Pilates!🤣

But in all seriousness, this video highlights some key concepts in Pilates:
1) A major principle of Pilates is control. Joseph Pilates actually called his exercise method Controlology. When practicing Pilates properly you are in control of your muscles and have control over your movements. When you aren’t moving with control you aren’t moving safely.
2) Pilates is progressive. You build up to the more difficult and/or complex exercises, and all lessons are tailored to your present level, goals, and what your body can and should do. This person definitely did not follow the progression leading to what we can only assume was supposed to be short spine massage.
3) Be able to laugh at yourself, both in your general life and when you do Pilates. Not an official key concept but one that I believe is so important. Learning new things can be hard and awkward, but everything is easier if you can approach it with a sense of humor.

Welcome to Pilates with Mandy! Pilates is a total body workout system designed to tone and stretch the entire body while also improving balance, coordination, and posture. Pilates is great for all bodies, ages, and exercise experience levels!

My small home studio is set up to offer my students privacy during their lessons, and all lessons are tailored specifically to the needs and goals of each student. Sessions involve a combination of the reformer, tower, and chair apparatus, along with mat exercises and a variety of small props.
