Wrist pain wrecking your front rack or handstands? Let’s talk about what’s actually irritated. Good news: most cases aren't a serious injury. They are a capacity problem in the wrist and forearm. When you have limited wrist extension, your elbows drop during movements like cleans or front squats, forcing your wrists to take the brunt of the load. Here is how to handle it so you don't have to stop training: ✅ MODIFY: Use a false grip or straps for cleans, and switch to dumbbells or parallettes for pressing. ✅ BUILD TOLERANCE: Deliberately train your wrists with loaded extension holds and progressive weight-bearing on the hands. ✅ USE WRAPS WISELY: Wrist wraps are a great tool to help in the moment, but they won't build long-term capacity. They are a tool, not a fix. ⚠️ RED FLAGS: If you experience numbness or tingling into your fingers, or pain over the thumb-side of your wrist after a fall, get an assessment! This could be a scaphoid fracture and requires imaging.
