Remembering our amazing Dad today. Crazy thinking we've been without him 11 years today. Memories flood our minds and phones and wishing he was on his Canada fishing trip again this year.

We've been a bit quiet on our hunting page lately. The last few seasons have been rough. But felt like we needed to share a little background and what’s going on today.

Our Dad, Gary, had an idea of building a deer shack many years ago. One that you could, cook in, take naps, hang out in the quiet, and yes, it even had a little bathroom. That thought turned into the deer shack that Greg and Tim built with our Dad, in the spring of 2008. It was done and put out in the spot Greg and Dad hunted. The shack had been in that location for 16 years. Greg had many hunting experiences at the shack with our Dad, until Dad passed away in June 2015. Krista always had an interest so she stepped in to hunting that same spot. We had lots of great hunting there, until 2024, when the shack had to be moved.

Fast forward a bit and this is where we are today…

The past couple of years have brought us many challenges. Like having to relocate to the shack from Dad’s original location, moving it, Krista’s husband building steps and a brace for the shack, the shack surviving a field fire, then repairs, and then having to move the it again to Greg’s house so we could fix what’s needs fixing, and to find another hunting location. Sadly, Saturday morning we discovered the shack was hit by a tornado that went through the outskirts of Colfax. It not only demolished our shack, but also the barn at Gregs house as well. To see pictures of the shack was heartbreaking. That was one place we always felt our Dad’s presence. While we are thankful no one was hurt, the damage is sad because it was such a sentimental piece to our family as it was one more piece of our Dad that we had that he built.
We are trying to remember to stay positive and not say “can’t” because if you knew our Dad, he always said, “Can’t doesn’t exisit “. While the shack is gone, Dad always said he wanted it to go out In a “Blaze of Glory”, well Dad, I think you’d be proud of how it went out, 100 mph winds and a tornado finally took it out.

Happy Heavenly Father's to our Dad. He was an avid outdoorsman and an amazing man and Dad. Today we remember all the memories of hunting, fishing, canoeing, and all other outdoor adventures. We miss you every single day, but feel your presence everday.

Been a minute since posting, but it's been a busy last few months! If you remember we moved our deer shack and have been learning the area and deer traffic patterns. My amazing husband, Drew went out and built us some new steps and support system for the shack. March, the area took a hit by some fire, but by the grace of God, our deer shack was fine. 🙏
Looking forward to doing some work to the shack and preparing for this season!!
