Strength training is always a better choice than just walking.

Strength training is always a better choice than just walking.

I love the loaded walking trend, BUT…

Walking with a weight vest on just doesn’t replace structured and progressive strength training, which is the real secret weapon to health and fat loss for both men and women.

What does the weight vest actually do? It’s actually quite simple, but adding additional load to the body during otherwise low level walking, the heart rate elevates into trainable zones to develop cardiovascular health and fitness.

While walking more is always recommended, walking is not really considered “exercise” due to its lack of trainable stimulus. It’s really just “movement” and yes we need more of that as well, but training your heart, lungs and circulatory system to adapt and get stronger is a higher yield activity.

But as great as that sounds, just walking under load doesn’t activate many of the other training stimuli needed to be strong, healthy and adaptable. Strength training does that.

Strength training helps us build muscle, burn fat (for longer), develops strong bones, enhances movement health, improves balance and motor control, harnesses protective power, unlocks mobility and makes you better at everything.

Including making you harder to kill in every way…

A well balanced training program can absolutely including weight vest walking AND structured strength training. My recommendation? A 3+3 program training strength 3x/week with a full body program, and then add in 45-60 minutes of loaded walking another 3x/week.

This will have you achieving ALL your goals simultaneously.

And that’s exactly what my Female Functional Physique Program offers inside of the Unbreakable Training App.

Strength training is the real secret to the fountain of youth. As it can literally reverse “normal” aging…

Here’s the simply strength training for longevity blueprint:

1. Strength train 3+ times per week
2. Train hard, go heavy BUT stay healthy
3. Program all 6 foundational movement patterns
4. Choose exercises you are competent in to train hard
5. Take your sets to form failure for proper stimulus
6. Train the 6-12 strength rep range a majority of exercises
7. Don’t skip the warm up (dummy) prepare to train
8. Use full range of motion and proper form technique
9. Focus on earned (not force fed) progressive overload
10. Cycle your exercises or program every 4 weeks

*NEVER let your ego dictate your exercises or weights
*Strength does NOT necessitate barbell big 3 lifting

And most importantly, train either COMMON SENSE…

As your strength training for longevity plan will have you doing this for the rest of your life, consistent hard work will always be the undefeated champion of health and longevity.

Fitness EXPERTS are few and far between in today’s Wild West of an influencer driven fitness industry. Here’s how to qualify your social media sources:

1. Education: Does your “expert” hold both advanced degrees in their subject matter AND continue to expand their expertise with continued study, coursework, certifications and credentials? Note, a 4-year degree (or even a doctorate) isn’t the end to an expert’s eduction, it’s the starting line.

2. Experience: Does your “expert” actually practice what they preach not only with themselves, but with other real life human beings in a successful and sustainable way? The 10k hour rule here is huge, that equates to 5+ years of full time focused work in a specific topic matter as an entry point. A point that 98% of personal trainers and coaches never surpass. And it goes without saying, practice and patience is a trait of an expert continuously evolving.

3. Real World Results: Does your “expert” have a track record of results, relationships and a reputation for doing great work, backed by happy healthy clients who not only were successful in some shady 6-week quick fix of a program, but sustained life changing health upgrades? I don’t care about fake before and after pictures here, I care about function, about fitness, about internal health and more than anything, elevated happiness and holistic lifestyle changes.

I’ll save you some sifting here. It’s rare that anyone online has an education to back up anything they claim. And it’s even rarer to have the knowledge of education, and the experience to apply it. And the rarest of all? An educated, experienced expert who dedicates their life to their clients results and the relationships they make.

That last one? That’s called a career coach. And most of them don’t have social media accounts. And if they do, they’re not theatrical overproduced shills. They’re too busy helping people, making an impact.
