It’s with heavy hearts and fond memories that Coeur d’Alene Roller Derby (fka Snake Pit Derby Dames) are hanging up our skates in February 2024. For over two decades this women's roller derby league provided a positive, supportive space for physical growth, competition, and friendship. Even if you didn’t have a chance to watch one of our bouts, it’s likely we brought a smile to your face as we skated by in the annual parades or scanned your ticket at the fair rodeo. Maybe you or a loved one benefited from our support of local programs such as Bikers Against Child Abuse, Kootenai Humane Society, Centennial Trail clean up and more.
Roller derby is a community sport, and we were fortunate to have great volunteers who refereed and participated as non-skating officials, and provided care as trackside EMTs. Many talented photographers captured the fun at our home bouts.
Our last bout was Feb 22, 2020 against Rainer Roller Riot at Skate Line Sports (now closed). We left that bout excited for the rest of the season, then the COVID-19 pandemic altered all of our lives. Skate Plaza, the only home/practice space this team had known, had business plans that no longer included roller derby. Our team has been working hard since that time to locate a new practice space. We’ve investigated school gyms, recreation centers, airport hangers, and empty warehouses. Unfortunately, none of these locations have either been affordable or available to us. The Coeur d’Alene Roller Derby will dissolve by the end of February 2024 unless we are graced with a miracle - a welcome practice space.
Peace, Love, Derby,
Coeur d’Alene Roller Derby 💚
