💙 May is Water Safety Awareness Month.

Living in the Coeur d’Alene area means our kids grow up surrounded by beautiful water—and with that comes the responsibility of teaching them how to be safe and confident around it.

In this drill, we’re practicing what to do after an unexpected fall from a floating mat. The focus isn’t perfect swimming; it’s staying calm, finding safety, and knowing how to get there.

These are the real-life skills we work on every day because confidence around water starts long before a day at the lake.

Here’s to a fun, safe summer on the water. ☀️🌊💙

Strong swimmers can have more fun, and give you a little more peace of mind💙

Year round practice gets you here- confident, capable and a safer swimmer!

A real life transition from Monday -> Friday🩵

The goal isn’t a perfect first lesson. It’s helping them feel safe enough to work through hard things.
That emotional progress is what makes the swim skills stick.

Steady & Consistent
Challenging but Rewarding

I’m so proud of my swimmers and the progress they are capable of making in a week with me🏊🏼‍♀️

What if “later” was too late?

The sooner you start in the water, bath, lessons- the better their swim journey will be. Keeping your child out of vests and arm floaties is imperative to their success💙

Getting in and practicing with your kids could be the game changer they need to soar in the water🌊

💦 Flip, float, swim! 💦

Learning to enter the water from different angles teaches kids to stay calm, float, and reach safety—whether it’s a wall, dock, or mat. Backwards off the mat? Safety practice, fun, and full of confidence-building skills! 🏊‍♂️✨
After building a solid foundation of skills, students learn to handle any entry, transition to their back, and swim safely—skills that last a lifetime. 💙

There’s a reason I speak to children the way I do in swim lessons.

Calm. Clear. Steady. Kind.

I explain exactly what we’re going to do. I reassure often. I allow breaks to reset. And when they attempt something challenging? We celebrate it properly — with real praise, claps, and joy.

Because this isn’t just about swimming.
It’s about nervous systems.
It’s about trust.
It’s about helping a child feel safe enough to be brave.

Support creates courage. From both me and the families. Brave swimmers aren’t rushed — they’re supported. 🤍

Why streamline body position is essential in swimming. 💧
Learning and understanding our buoyancy is a key aspect when learning how to swim->

When a swimmer is parallel and on top of the water, their body moves with the water instead of fighting against it. This horizontal position reduces drag, conserves energy and allows them to breathe, kick, and move efficiently.

A vertical body position (like “standing” in the water) creates resistance. It makes swimmers work harder, tire faster, and rely more on panic movements instead of skill.

This is also why floaties can be tricky. Many flotation devices keep children upright, which can delay learning true balance, breath control, and independent floating. While they may feel helpful, they often delay the development of true water confidence and teach reliance instead of real water awareness and assurance.

We’re not just teaching kids to stay afloat- we’re also teaching them to swim strong and confident 🤍

Swimming without goggles is imperative to creating a strong well-balanced swimmer! Yes, goggles are a great tool and I use them in lessons every day, we also have some “no goggles” swim time once the child is comfortable and more confident in the water.
Swimmers will learn that they can put their face in, float and swim underwater without them, creating even more confidence in their abilities!

This swimmer (3) has learned that he is so capable and can have fun with and without his goggles on! 🏊🏼‍♀️💙

Come to a 30minute private swim lesson with me💙

A little glimpse inside the 30 minutes with my return swimmer who is 3 years old! We’re focusing on independent skills, correct body position, breath control and water safety in this video! It’s not always this smooth, often times I’m met with fear and resistance. With consistency, patience and working through the tears we get here- a safe swimmer who can self rescue, swim across the pool and jump in!

Come swim with me🏊🏼‍♀️🛟
