Dear Friends of Sleeping Giant,
With all the recent snowfall it seems like a good time to remind everyone about uphill accessibility.
Our insurance provider does not allow us to condone back country skiing or skiing of any type when we are not fully operational. They have also requested that we post no trespassing signs on our structures to discourage people from trying to enter them. We do however recognize that our National Forest belongs to all Americans and is there to be enjoyed.
We have had several small snow slides over the last couple of weeks, and while we are grooming our service roads to maintain emergency access to our lift shacks and for regular maintenance, we would like to warn everyone that we have not groomed our trails and assume that the snowpack is highly unstable. We recommend to anyone recreating anywhere in Shoshone National Forest to use extreme caution and follow all winter safety guidelines for activities in the back country. For more details or guidance, we recommend contacting Shoshone National Forest’s Wapiti District Office in Cody at 307-527-6241.
Please also note that Sleeping Giant Employees are conducting regular maintenance on the mountain, and they reserve the right to ask anyone to leave the territory of our lease for any reason, especially if it interferes with their ability to work. Failure to follow their instructions could lead to legal consequences.
Additionally, this week we had some unknown individuals break the lock off one of our lift shacks and try to turn on one of our lifts. We reported this incident to the Cody Police Department and are currently accessing the damage. We are also repositioning our security cameras and will prosecute anyone that harms our property or equipment to the fullest extent of the law.
Using our public lands is a privilege and a responsibility and we hope everyone will recreate responsibly.
