The Georgia Bulldogs have been the #1 priority the past couple years becoming back to back NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. After a short hiatus, the Meridith Motorsports team made their way back to the race track for the ROAR Carpet Nationals in Cocoa, FL at the world famous Beachline Raceway. Daniel Chavez ran 17.5 2WD Buggy and 13.5 4WD Buggy, which were the largest classes at the event.
It was evident after the first few practice runs that, in 17.5, our car steup, power, and driving were on a different level compared to the rest of the field. The first highlight of the weekend was in Seeding Round 2. Chavez was cruising to an easy top seed going into qualifying until the crew chief, Troy Meridith, gave the orders to "Let it eat Danny!" A few laps later Chavez dropped one of the fastest laps of the weekend and shaved about .3 tenths to show the rest of the drivers if they get close to our pace, we were prepared to go faster.
Chavez would go on to sweep qualifying in 17.5 2WD and get 3 of the 4 rounds in 13.5 4WD. Meridith Motorsports would start on pole for both classes at the ROAR Nationals.
Main day was quite exciting on and off the track. In 17.5, Chavez would lead tone to tone in A1 and A2 to take home the first natty of the weekend.
In 13.5, we had a little more work to do. The car was not as efficient in the corners as the 2wd and we found ourselves in a 12 round fight every time we hit the track. In A1, Chavez elevated his game and walked away from the field to coast to an easy A1 win. A2 was a different story. Chavez was slowly building his lead until one mistake coming down the steps gave the lead to, fast up and coming driver, Nate Sutherland. There was about a 2.5 second gap to close with about a minute and a half left on the clock. Chavez dug deep and closed the gap to Sutherland through the high risk chicane coming off the straight away. With less than a minute to go, Sutherland opened the door (About one car width) coming down the elevated stage section. Like water, Chavez moved in made the pass on the inside, and pulled away to cruise to another national championship!
Mark it 2 dude! Daniel Chavez becomes a TWO-TIME National Champion for Meridith Motorsports! The entire team worked hard for this and it couldn't have happened without the help from Dennis R Meridith , Troy Meridith, Raymond Darroch, Tj Bradley, and Dave Ramos.
